GED Tutor

The GED in English Tutor plays a critical role in supporting adult learners preparing for the General Educational Development (GED) exam. The role exists to strengthen academic readiness, deepen individualized instruction, and ensure that tutoring aligns with the school’s mission of supporting adult learners in achieving important academic milestones. By providing targeted instruction, guiding study techniques, and collaborating with GED instructors, the position directly supports equitable access to education and improved career prospects for graduates.


CORE WORKSTREAMS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Instructional Support & Student Learning

    Provide individualized or small-group instruction in Mathematical Reasoning, Reasoning Through Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies based on GED standards. Break down complex concepts and make them accessible to learners at varying academic levels. Assist students in developing critical thinking skills, test-taking strategies, time management, and independent problem-solving. Prepare and deliver engaging lessons aligned with GED curriculum standards. Assess students’ academic skills and create customized learning plans.Monitor student progress through assessments and feedback; communicate progress to both students and instructors.


Classroom & Program Collaboration

Work closely with GED instructors to provide push-in or pull-out instructional support. Support teachers in preparing for the start and close of each semester, including administering pretests.Serve as a substitute using emergency sub plans when instructors are absent. Participate in biweekly cohort meetings and regular check-ins with the Program Director.Participate in tutor training and professional development sessions.


Student Engagement & Motivation

Encourage and motivate students to persevere through academic challenges. Foster a supportive learning environment that builds confidence and independence.


Administrative Responsibilities

    Maintain accurate records of student attendance, progress, and performance.Stay current on GED testing updates and adult education best practices.

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND OTHER EXPERIENCES

    Bachelor’s degree in Education, a relevant subject area, or equivalent experience. Previous experience tutoring or teaching adult learners. Ability to assess academic skills and create individualized learning plans. Ability to work hybrid shifts (Mon–Wed in person, Thu & Fri virtual) and attend in-person professional development days. SALARY RANGE AND BENEFITS:

We offer:

    A competitive starting salary range of $26.69 to $36.58 per hour commensurate with experience. 46 total days of time off (a combination of paid holidays, vacation, sick, and personal time) per year. This number increases over time. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

    Ability to carry light materials such as books, laptops, or instructional supplies (usually 10–20 pounds). Ability to work in-person and virtual shifts as scheduled.Ability to remain seated or standing for extended periods while instructing.
