Summary
Supervises general warehouse operations under the supervision of the Warehouse Supervisor. Forklift Operator and Crew Chief.
Duties and Responsibilities
Essential functions
Assists Warehouse Supervisor with daily duties such as:
***(Duties are performed in conjunction with Warehouse Supervisor as directed. Or, lead material handler when Supervisor is out.
Works out of assigned warehouse. Is responsible for consolidation, cleanliness, rotation, pulling stock, and directing material handlers as to empty locations and any stock pulled for loading.
Warehouse lead’s authority/giving direction, is limited to their assigned warehouse only.
- Assists Distribution Center employees when needed.
- Verifies picking stock to fill orders using BPCS.
- Records and verifies transfers of stock into the Distribution Center.
- Opens warehouses daily as needed. Secures warehouse on weekends as needed.
OTHER DUTIES (As directed by the Warehouse Supervisor)
- Operates a forklift to unload and load trucks as needed. Assists Truck Unloaders in storing product in correct locations.
- Operates a forklift to pull sample orders to deliver to Quality Control.
- Verifies code date information for Quality Control.
- Inventory - assists in taking physical inventory at all warehouses. Records count and UPC of finished goods.
- Assist customers with pickle sales at Distribution Center.
- Stretch-wrap machine - maintains stretch-wrap machine. Directs Forklift Operators to stretch-wrap pallet load.
- Assists in double checking orders.
- Rotates stock as needed.
- Helps clean Warehouse as needed.
- Stoops and bends in some job tasks. Ability to read and write required. Basic math skills required (adding, subtracting, multiplication and division).
- Performs other duties as needed or assigned.
- Occasionally operates a forklift to pull orders and records all code date information.
RELATIONSHIPS WITH OTHERS INSIDE AND OUTSIDE THE ORGANIZATION
Interpersonal skills are important in this job. Has contact with Distribution Center employees, outside truck drivers, Quality Control employees. Occasional contact with customers.
MACHINES, EQUIPMENT, TOOLS USED
Forklift, Stretch Wrap Machine, Calculator, Air Hose, Steel Toed Shoes.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Works inside warehouse, subject to significant seasonal temperature variations. Fumes from forklifts. Some contact with dust, oil, ink, and grease. Hardhat required, except as otherwise stated in work rules.
POTENTIAL HAZARDS
Operation of and working around moving machinery (forklifts).
SUPERVISORY FUNCTIONS
Has some supervisory duties at Distribution Center for about six employees.
ADA PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS JOB
- Visual acuity: required for operating forklift, double-checking loads, checking code dates, etc.
- Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.
- Hearing: Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make fine discriminations in sound.
- Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
JOB SPECIFICATION
Knowledge, skills, and abilities needed: Requires math and reading skills. ‘Requires good interpersonal skills and extensive knowledge of our warehousing systems.
Education and experience needed. High school graduate or equivalent. 3-12 months related experience preferred.
