Job Description

Job Summary:

Cardiac Rehabilitation - Inpatient: The RN position requires the educational knowledge and skills to provide education and guidance related to cardiovascular, pulmonary, diabetes, and other chronic diseases to patients and families in the In- and Outpatient settings. Knowledge relative to disease pathology, interventions, and rehabilitation for people with chronic disease and co-morbidities is required for this position. Able to communicate effectively with physicians and their counterparts. Acts as a liaison between the hospital/physicians and outpatient Cardio-Pulmonary Rehab. Additionally, administrative and programming skills will be utilized to develop, implement, and maintain ongoing programming related to cardiopulmonary rehabilitation services. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served; also demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures. Also work Outpatient CP Rehab. Cross-train with the other disciplines under Cardiopulmonary Rehab. The RN will perform other job duties as assigned. Under the direct supervision of the Director of Livewell.

Performance Expectations:

  • Demonstrates the ability to perform nursing physical assessment, read/interpret cardiac rhythms and identify emergent and non-emergent conditions and make sound clinical decisions.
  • Demonstrates the ability to interact with co-workers, physicians, patients, and other referral sources in a professional manner.
  • Demonstrates the ability of being organized and efficient and able to multi-task in a busy clinical setting.
  • Demonstrate technical aptitude for dealing with and troubleshooting multiple pieces of equipment, including aerobic and resistance exercise equipment, blood pressure, oximeters, scales, and telemetry monitoring.
  • Demonstrate the aptitude to safely assist patients on and off equipment and proper use.
  • Demonstrate an aptitude of oxygen management for rehabilitation, including oxygen safety and supply.
  • Demonstrate an aptitude to educate patients with regard to pulmonary disease and care, and cardiac risk factor management.
  • Demonstrate the ability to tolerate high and low temperature ranges set to accommodate exercise environment.
  • Demonstrate ability to tolerate physically demanding tasks of moving equipment and/or moving patients utilizing safety measures for both yourself and/or patient.
  • Demonstrate ability to keep environment clean and safe.

Qualifications:

Education/Skills:

Graduate of a recognized non-online RN program with current Licensure for the State of Mississippi

Work Experience:

Experience in cardiovascular and pulmonary clinical nursing, with knowledge of risk factor control. Experience in advanced Electrocardiography and telemetry.

Certification/Licensure-DUE UPON HIRE-Must be licensed/certified in one of the following:

Licensed RN able to practice within the State of MS

Additional Certification/Licensure - Obtained based on the required timeframe below:

  • Basic Life Support

Within 30 Days of Employment

Required

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support

Within 90 Days of Employment

Required

  • Telemetry Nurse Education

Within 90 Days of Employment

Required

Mental Demands:

Ability to maintain expertise in cardiovascular, pulmonary, diabetes, and risk factor education and modification. Must be able to deal with clients, medical professionals and staff in a positive and professional manner. Considerable initiative and judgment involved in handling both personal and medical information from clients to make sound clinical decisions. Moderate stress from meeting deadlines and goals and objectives. Public presentation, communications, and program promotions skills are needed. Ability to effectively organize and communicate (written or oral) thoughts to lay public as well as health care professionals.
