Job Description
The Township Security personnel are essential to upholding the safety and security of the building. Their visible presence effectively deters violations of Township regulations and organizational policies. Equipped with training to identify and report suspicious, unsafe, or criminal behavior, they proactively maintain a secure environment. Their primary mission is to safeguard the property and ensure the well-being of residents, guests, and employees on the premises.
Hours:
This is a part-time position with hours scheduled based on Township operational needs. Daytime security coverage is generally scheduled between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Evening security coverage may be scheduled between 5:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m., depending on facility use and programming needs.
Additional evening, weekend, and special event shifts may be assigned as needed based on Township activities, programs, and operational requirements. Work schedules and the number of hours assigned may vary from week to week, and a minimum number of hours is not guaranteed.
Essential Job Functions:
- Monitor Township entrances, exits, common areas, surrounding areas, and video surveillance systems for safety, security, access, and suspicious activity.
- Maintain a visible, professional security presence and help ensure a safe environment for employees, residents, visitors, and program participants.
- Respond to and appropriately escalate suspicious activity, disturbances, safety concerns, emergencies, and other security-related incidents in accordance with Township procedures.
- Contact and coordinate with Hoffman Estates Police, Fire, or other emergency services when necessary.
- Conduct security rounds, monitor facility access, and secure doors, alarms, and designated areas at the conclusion of assigned coverage.
- Document and communicate security incidents, unusual activity, facility concerns, and other relevant information occurring during the shift.
- Greet residents and visitors, provide basic directions or facility assistance, and route calls or inquiries to the appropriate Township department as needed.
- Provide limited support with minor facility needs, such as moving chairs or tables, when necessary and when it does not interfere with security responsibilities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Minimum of two (2) years of security, law enforcement, military, or comparable public-safety experience required; current or former law enforcement or military experience preferred.
- Valid Illinois Driver’s License, FOID card, and Concealed Carry License (CCL) required.
- Must provide and maintain an approved personal firearm and meet all applicable qualification requirements.
- Must maintain all training, retraining, certification, continuing-education, and qualification requirements applicable to the employee’s current or retired law-enforcement status. Township-approved security and public-safety training may be provided or approved to satisfy applicable requirements, including, but not limited to, ICMRT, threat awareness, emergency response, and other relevant law-enforcement or security training.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and professional judgment skills.
- Ability to maintain a professional appearance and demeanor while interacting with employees, residents, visitors, and emergency personnel.
- Basic computer proficiency.
Working Conditions:
This position requires on-site work at Township facilities and frequent standing and walking throughout assigned areas to visually monitor facility activity. The role involves regular interaction with residents, visitors, Township staff and officials, and emergency personnel and may require responding to safety concerns, security incidents, or emergency situations. Candidates must successfully complete all required background checks and Township security screening requirements.
Benefits:
Eligible part-time employees receive a front-loaded paid leave allotment based on their anticipated annual work schedule. For continuing employees, the prior calendar year’s hours worked may be used in determining the anticipated allotment. Additional paid leave will be provided as required by applicable law if actual hours worked exceed the anticipated schedule.
Part-time employees may be eligible for participation in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF), paid holidays when aligned with scheduled work hours, paid leave in accordance with applicable Township policy and law, professional development opportunities, and employee wellness and recognition programs. IMRF participation is determined in accordance with applicable IMRF eligibility requirements.
