Job Description:

The Business Relationship Manager serves as a key liaison between Nutmeg and our business members, responsible for cultivating and managing strong, long-term relationships that drive business loan and deposit growth. This role combines consultative financial guidance with proactive outreach to identify opportunities, deliver tailored banking solutions, and ensure exceptional service. The Business Relationship Manager collaborates cross-functionally to support portfolio performance, maintain regulatory standards, and contribute to our mission of strengthening communities through meaningful economic relationships.


Essential Functions:

  • Develop & Manage Business Relationships
    • Serve as the primary point of contact for business members, providing consultative financial guidance and personalized service.
    • Proactively identify opportunities to deepen relationships through tailored banking solutions.
    • Maintain regular outreach and engagement to ensure member satisfaction and retention.
  • Originate & Structure Commercial Loans, Present to Loan Committee
    • Conduct needs assessments and financial analysis to structure appropriate commercial loan solutions.
    • Prepare comprehensive loan packages including financials, risk assessments, and collateral documentation.
    • Present loan proposals to the Loan Committee, articulating rationale, risk mitigation strategies, and alignment with Nutmeg policies.
  • Monitor Credit Quality & Portfolio Performance
    • Oversee ongoing portfolio monitoring including periodic reviews and financial reporting
    • Identify emerging risks and declining trends, escalating issues as needed.
    • Provide regular performance updates to senior management and recommend strategic adjustments.
  • Collaborate Internally & Represent the Credit Union Externally
    • Represent Nutmeg at community events, business forums, and partner activations to build brand awareness and foster relationships.
    • Support onboarding of new business partners and ensure alignment with organizational goals and values.
    • Serve as a liaison between external stakeholders and internal teams to ensure seamless service delivery.
  • Assist with Loan Workouts
    • Collaborate with colleagues to assess distressed loans and recommend workout strategies.
    • Engage directly with business members to restructure terms, negotiate settlements, or develop repayment plans.
    • Monitor restructured loans for performance and escalate issues as needed.

Qualifications:

Experience, Education & Credentials:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, Economics or a related field is required.
  • A minimum of four years of progressive experience in business banking, commercial lending or relationship management within a financial institution.
  • Demonstrated success in originating and structuring commercial loans, managing business portfolios, and achieving growth goals.
  • Experience in credit analysis, risk assessment, and portfolio monitoring.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Familiarity with loan origination systems, credit tracking tools, and financial analysis platforms.
  • Strong understanding of commercial lending regulations, underwriting standards, and risk management practices.
  • Excellent relationship management, communication, and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally and represent Nutmeg externally with professionalism and strategic insight.

The anticipated hiring range for this position is $84,000 - $95,000 annually. Actual compensation will be determined based on factors such as skills, experience, qualifications, and internal equity.
