Job Description

Software Engineering Manager

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Software Engineering Manager based in United States.

This leadership role offers the opportunity to guide a cross-functional software engineering team building secure, high-assurance solutions for mission-critical edge environments. You will balance technical execution, team development, customer engagement, and rigorous delivery requirements. The role sits at the intersection of software engineering, systems architecture, and safety-critical development, supporting demanding applications across aerospace, defense, automotive, medical, and industrial environments. You will own software delivery from planning through execution while ensuring that speed never compromises safety, reliability, or compliance. As a key technical interface, you will translate customer and stakeholder needs into actionable engineering requirements. You will also help engineers grow while establishing strong Agile practices and maintaining high standards for mission-critical software development.

Accountabilities
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a cross-functional team of software engineers and contractors, with responsibility for career development, performance management, technical growth, and resource allocation.
  • Own the delivery lifecycle for operating system features and related software initiatives, managing schedules, risks, dependencies, priorities, and execution.
  • Balance delivery speed with the rigorous quality, safety, security, and reliability expectations required in mission-critical environments.
  • Serve as the primary technical interface for external customers and internal stakeholders, gathering, analyzing, and refining operational needs into clear and actionable systems and software requirements.
  • Translate complex technical challenges, project risks, dependencies, and delivery progress into clear updates for technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Lead Agile and Scrum practices across engineering initiatives, adapting delivery methodologies to environments where reliability and compliance are critical.
  • Analyze complex aerospace and safety-critical standards and translate certification and regulatory requirements into practical engineering activities and deliverables.
  • Coordinate engineering resources and priorities across multiple projects while ensuring teams remain aligned with customer and business objectives.
  • Support technical decision-making and remove obstacles that could affect project execution, quality, or delivery commitments.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and technical excellence across the engineering organization.
Requirements
  • 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, including at least 3 years in a software engineering management or people leadership role.
  • Proven experience leading and developing software engineering teams, including responsibility for performance, career growth, prioritization, and resource allocation.
  • Strong ability to translate complex technical challenges into concise project updates, recommendations, and actionable information for diverse stakeholders.
  • Deep expertise in Scrum and Agile methodologies, with the ability to apply Agile practices effectively within highly controlled or safety-critical development environments.
  • Strong understanding of software development lifecycles, project execution, technical risk management, and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline preferred.
  • U.S. citizenship is required.
  • Experience working with safety-critical development processes and standards such as DO-178C or ISO 26262 is highly desirable.
  • Experience developing systems-level software, including virtualization, operating system kernels, or hypervisors for x86 and/or ARM architectures, is highly desirable.
  • Strong communication, organizational, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to operate effectively in technically complex environments where safety, reliability, security, and compliance are essential.
Benefits
  • Compensation of $130,000–$160,000, plus bonus eligibility.
  • Low-cost medical, dental, and vision coverage options.
  • 401(k) plan with a generous employer match.
  • Responsible Paid Time Off and paid holidays.
  • Remote work opportunities based on role requirements.
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP).
  • Career growth and professional development opportunities.
  • Opportunity to work on secure, mission-critical technologies supporting demanding aerospace, defense, automotive, medical, and industrial applications.
  • Collaborative environment focused on technical innovation, engineering excellence, and high-assurance software development.
