Summary
The Supply Chain Buyer II independently manages a portfolio of assigned suppliers and commodities with increased complexity and business impact. This role ensures continuity of supply by balancing cost, quality, delivery, inventory, supplier performance, and operational risk while making purchasing decisions within established policies and delegated authority.
As an experienced purchasing professional, this position leads supplier performance improvement, resolves complex operational issues, coordinates engineering changes and supply transitions, and develops inventory solutions that support manufacturing requirements. The role also provides day-to-day guidance to less experienced buyers and collaborates with Planning, Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Operations, and the Sourcing Team on cross-functional priorities.
Responsibilities
- Manage a portfolio of complex and business-critical suppliers, including domestic and international sources, to ensure material availability and reliable operational performance.
- Independently evaluate purchasing alternatives and make decisions within delegated authority by balancing cost, quality, delivery, inventory, supplier capability, and business risk.
- Develop and maintain effective supplier relationships that improve responsiveness, delivery reliability, quality, and issue resolution.
- Lead supplier performance reviews, identify performance gaps, and drive corrective actions and recovery plans to improve supplier results.
- Analyze demand, inventory, lead times, supplier capacity, and operational constraints to develop purchasing and inventory strategies that support production while minimizing excess inventory and supply risk.
- Resolve complex supplier, material, and purchasing issues and coordinate cross-functional recovery activities to minimize operational disruption.
- Coordinate routine engineering changes, product transitions, and supplier implementation activities with Engineering, Planning, Manufacturing, Quality, and the Sourcing Team.
- Conduct operational RFQs and market evaluations for lower-spend or non-strategic requirements while escalating major commercial decisions, supplier selection, contracts, and significant financial impacts to the Sourcing Team.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities, validate supplier price changes, and support implementation of sourcing decisions and commercial agreements established by the Sourcing Team.
- Provide day-to-day guidance, onboarding support, and practical mentorship to less experienced buyers.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen purchasing processes, supplier performance, inventory management, ERP data quality, and operational efficiency.
- Maintain accurate purchasing records, supplier information, and ERP data while ensuring compliance with company policies, contractual requirements, quality standards, and applicable regulations.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Operations Management, Engineering, or a related field.
- 2+ years of progressive purchasing, procurement, or supply chain experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
- Working knowledge of purchasing, inventory management, supplier performance management, engineering change coordination, and ERP/MRP-driven manufacturing operations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated ability to independently manage supplier relationships, resolve operational issues, and make sound purchasing decisions.
- Strong analytical, organizational, negotiation, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to influence outcomes and collaborate across multiple functions.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel, and experience using an ERP/MRP system such as Infor CSI/Syteline, SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, or a similar platform.
- Ability to manage competing priorities, provide practical guidance to others, and operate with accountability in a dynamic manufacturing environment.
- Experience managing critical domestic, nearshore, or international suppliers.
- Experience leading supplier performance reviews, corrective actions, engineering changes, or product transitions.
- Experience with inventory optimization, supplier recovery, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- APICS/ASCM, Lean, Six Sigma, or other relevant professional certification or training.
- Experience supporting engineered products or discrete manufacturing operations.
Location: This position is located in Longmont, CO.
Base Compensation: $76,000 - $91,000 is the projected base salary range and will be determined by the candidate’s overall qualifications and experience.
Bonus: This position is eligible for an annual bonus based on individual and company performance.
