Description:

Summary

The Materials Coordinator is responsible for supporting the efficient flow of materials, tooling, supplies, and outsourced processes throughout the machine shop. This role coordinates shipping, receiving, inventory control, material movement, and production support activities to ensure timely delivery of raw materials and finished product while maintaining inventory accuracy and organization. The Materials Coordinator works cross-functionally with machining, quality, purchasing, and administration to support production schedules and customer requirements.

Responsibilities

· Coordinate incoming and outgoing shipments, including proper packaging, labeling, shipping methods, and required documentation

· Receive, inspect, verify, and distribute incoming materials, tooling, and supplies to appropriate departments

· Verify incoming materials against purchase orders, packing slips, and job requirements; communicate discrepancies as needed

· Support material flow throughout the facility to ensure production jobs are properly staged and prioritized

· Maintain accurate inventory records within ERP systems and assist with inventory transactions and material traceability

· Perform routine cycle counts and support physical inventory activities

· Organize, label, stock, and maintain raw material, consumable, tooling, and finished goods inventory locations

· Pull and stage materials, tooling, and components for production jobs and outside processing operations

· Coordinate packaging, shipping, and receiving of external processing and subcontracted work

· Clean, package, label, and store finished or in-process product as required

· Prepare and process bills of lading, delivery receipts, certifications, and other shipping documentation

· Attach required documentation to shipments including certifications, SDS documentation, and customer-required paperwork

· Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other material handling equipment safely and efficiently

· Assist with maintaining shop organization, cleanliness, and 5S initiatives within inventory and shipping areas

· Communicate proactively with production, purchasing, quality, and leadership regarding material shortages, delays, or inventory concerns

· Support continuous improvement initiatives related to inventory accuracy, material flow, and warehouse organization

· Comply with OSHA, safety, quality, and environmental requirements

· Perform other duties within the scope and skill level of the position in support of department and company objectives

Requirements:

Qualifications

· High school diploma or equivalent required

· 2+ years of experience in a manufacturing, warehouse, or machine shop environment preferred

· Experience with shipping, receiving, inventory control, and material coordination in a manufacturing environment preferred

· Experience working with ERP/MRP systems such as JobBOSS preferred

· Forklift certification and/or material handling experience preferred

Skills & Competencies

· Strong organizational and prioritization skills

· Strong attention to detail and inventory accuracy

· Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment

· Effective verbal and written communication skills

· Ability to work cross-functionally with multiple departments

· Strong problem-solving and follow-through abilities

· Demonstrated self-starter with ability to work independently

· Basic understanding of manufacturing workflows and production scheduling

· Proficient in Microsoft Office and manufacturing ERP systems

· Understanding of Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement principles preferred

Physical Requirements

Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. May be required to move, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, finger, grasp, feel, talk, hear, and/or complete repetitive motions during course of work.

Visual Requirements

The worker is required to have visual acuity to perform an activity such as: operating machines such as lathes, drill presses, power saws and mills where the seeing job is at or within arm’s reach; performing mechanical or skilled trades tasks of a non-repetitive nature such as ones by carpenters, technicians, service people, plumbers, painters, mechanics, etc.

Environmental Conditions

Inside environmental conditions: Protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.

Noise: There is sufficient noise to cause the worker to shout in order to be heard above the ambient noise level.

Vibration: Exposure to oscillating movements of the extremities or whole body.

Hazards: Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals.

Atmospheric conditions: One or more of the following conditions that affect the respiratory system of the skin: Fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases or poor ventilation.

Oils: There is air and/or skin exposure to oils and other cutting fluids.
