Job Summary:
This position is responsible for safe, reliable, and environmentally sound testing of our process, ensuring good manufacturing practices and on-time delivery to the customer while adhering to established quality standards.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Must be able to perform duties safely.
- Perform tests on products to ensure quality standards for the samples are met.
- Observe and record accurately, precisely, and organize as required.
- Communicate essential information and report to the necessary parties through email regularly.
- Fill out and file EAF manifests, including, but not limited to, weighing railcars in and out and checking against the manifest for discrepancies.
- Communicate with suppliers on matters related to product quality and supplier capability.
- Perform daily pre/post-shift inspections on lab equipment and maintain a log.
- Troubleshoot all lab equipment when needed.
- Assist in laboratory equipment calibration, verification, and maintenance as needed.
- Maintain and clean laboratory instruments and equipment daily.
- Must be willing to cross-train in all plant areas.
- Demonstrate a positive, upbeat attitude and energy level towards teammates, peers, and customers.
- Follow all safety rules, regulations, and procedures set forth by the Federal and State agencies & Zinc Resources LLC policies.
- Perform other duties not directly related to the position and assist fellow workers as requested.
Minimum Education Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities required:
- 1-5 years of experience in an Industrial laboratory setting.
- Proficient PC knowledge.
- Proficient with Excel.
- Knowledge and understanding of how to use a Periodic Table.
- Knowledge of all instruments, functions, and calibration of laboratory equipment.
- Ability to learn rapidly, follow directions, and acquire good work habits such as punctuality, skill, neatness, and dependability.
- Ability to communicate effectively on a technical level with customers, across organizational lines, and with all levels of management.
- Must be able to read and interpret reports and make competent decisions related to the lab unit.
- Must communicate effectively in English and read, understand, and convey work instructions and assignments.
- Must be a self-starter who can work with little or no supervision.
- Must be able to prioritize workload efficiently.
- Service-oriented and a team player with a "can-do" attitude.
- Ability to operate the radio, CB radio, computer, and other equipment as required.
- Must be able to travel locally to other rail yard operations.
- Must be able to work irregular shifts, days/nights, and weekends. Requires extended working hours and varied shifts with the possibility of weekend and holiday work, as required by schedules, workload, and plant conditions. 'On call' status will be required periodically.
Physical requirements:
- Ability to wear a hard hat, safety glasses, ear protection, respirator, etc.
- Must pass a lung function test for respirator use without restrictions.
- Must wear a respirator for a prolonged period.
- Must be able to bend, stoop, climb, and reach around all areas of equipment.
- Lift to 50 lbs. to waist level and carry 20 yards.
- Must be able to work in areas where noise levels are up to 90 dbs.
- Will work in varied environments (in all weather conditions, heat, cold, wet, humid, dry, or dusty conditions).
- Exposure to cement, clay, limestone, shale, and other raw materials, chemicals, solvents, and lubricants.
