Position Overview:
The Blake School seeks a part-time seventh and eighth-grade dance teacher, eager to foster a healthy, safe, and positive dance community that encourages collaboration, creativity, and individual expression. The strongest candidates will have an appreciation for and experience working with early adolescent learners. We estimate the coverage dates to be October 28, 2026 - March 12, 2027.
Blake is particularly interested in candidates who will enrich the diversity of identity, lived experience and thinking that make a community strong and empower students to engage across differences. The committee will begin reviewing applications the week of September 14, 2026.
Requirements:Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
The teacher will develop dancers’ foundational dance technique, coordination, strength, mind-body awareness and choreographic skills. Middle School dance courses encourage artistic expression and exploration while building skills in collaboration, confidence and performance readiness. The teacher should have the ability and willingness to choreograph pieces appropriate for middle school students across a wide range of ability levels and to represent a diverse variety of dance styles. The teacher will also have opportunities to connect students with the local Twin Cities dance community through guest artists, workshops and field trips.

Skills & Qualfications
- Hold a bachelor’s degree
- Be an actively practicing artist with significant experience teaching dance to middle school students in a school-based environment
- Foster a healthy environment that encourages students to challenge themselves artistically and physically while developing dance technique, coordination, flexibility, balance and overall confidence
- Demonstrate the ability to choreograph age-appropriate pieces in a variety of dance styles that are accessible to students across a range of ability levels
- Nurture and challenge students to meet their individual developmental and learning needs
- Provide differentiated instruction to students with a wide array of identities, lived experiences and abilities
The salary range is $34,258-$52,225, assuming 4-15 years of teaching with adjustments made outside of that range of experience.
