Position SummaryThe Low Voltage Superintendent is responsible for overseeing field operations across multiple low-voltage and technology construction projects. This role provides leadership to Project Superintendents, Foremen, technicians, and field personnel while ensuring projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with company standards, project specifications, applicable codes, and industry requirements.
The Low Voltage Superintendent will provide technical and operational leadership across systems such as structured cabling, data and communications, nurse call, access control, video surveillance, fire alarm, audio/visual, public address, and other low-voltage technology systems.
Key ResponsibilitiesField Operations & LeadershipOversee multiple low-voltage projects simultaneously across various job sites.
Direct and support Project Superintendents, Foremen, technicians, and field staff.
Establish and enforce field productivity standards, installation practices, and best practices.
Provide technical guidance and problem-solving support to field leadership.
Coordinate installation activities from mobilization through testing, commissioning, and project closeout.
Ensure field teams have the appropriate manpower, materials, tools, equipment, and information necessary to complete work efficiently.
Monitor installation progress and identify potential field issues before they impact project schedules or budgets.
Enforce company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and project-specific safety requirements.
Conduct jobsite safety audits and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
Promote a strong safety culture and accountability at all levels of the organization.
Ensure installations comply with applicable codes, standards, contract documents, and manufacturer requirements.
Support compliance with applicable NFPA, NEC, BICSI, TIA, and other industry standards as required by project scope.
Ensure proper work practices are followed when working in active healthcare, commercial, industrial, and institutional environments.
Work with Project Managers to develop, maintain, and execute project schedules.
Monitor manpower, productivity, installation progress, and labor forecasting.
Assist with manpower planning and crew allocation across multiple projects.
Identify risks to project schedules and implement corrective strategies.
Coordinate low-voltage work with electrical, mechanical, IT, security, architectural, and other trades.
Track material requirements and identify potential procurement or delivery issues that could impact the schedule.
Support project turnover, testing, commissioning, and closeout schedules.
Ensure high-quality workmanship across all low-voltage projects.
Verify installations meet contract documents, specifications, applicable codes, manufacturer requirements, and customer expectations.
Ensure proper installation, labeling, termination, testing, and documentation of low-voltage systems.
Support inspections, testing, commissioning, certification, and system acceptance activities.
Review field installations and identify deficiencies requiring correction.
Assist with troubleshooting system performance issues and coordinating corrective actions.
Ensure project documentation, as-builts, test results, and closeout requirements are properly completed.
Collaborate with Project Managers, Estimators, Engineers, Designers, and Operations leadership.
Coordinate with general contractors, other trades, inspectors, vendors, manufacturers, technology partners, and clients as needed.
Participate in project meetings and provide accurate field progress updates.
Communicate manpower requirements, material needs, schedule risks, and field issues to project leadership.
Assist with conflict resolution and field issue escalation.
Maintain strong working relationships with customers, contractors, and project stakeholders.
Mentor and develop Superintendents, Foremen, technicians, and apprentices.
Support workforce training, apprenticeship programs, certifications, and skills development.
Promote consistent installation standards and best practices across projects.
Assist with performance evaluations and disciplinary actions when necessary.
Help develop future low-voltage field leaders within the organization.
10+ years of low-voltage, communications, security, fire alarm, structured cabling, or technology construction experience.
Previous experience as a Low Voltage Superintendent, Senior Superintendent, Foreman, or Senior Field Leader.
Strong understanding of low-voltage construction methods, installation practices, and project coordination.
Experience managing multiple projects, crews, and job sites simultaneously.
Working knowledge of applicable codes, standards, and industry requirements.
Strong understanding of structured cabling, communications, security, fire alarm, access control, or other low-voltage systems.
Proven ability to lead field personnel and coordinate work with multiple trades.
Excellent leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Valid driver’s license.
BICSI certification or experience with BICSI/TIA standards.
NICET certification or fire alarm experience.
Experience with access control, video surveillance, intrusion detection, nurse call, public address, AV, or building technology systems.
Experience with healthcare, industrial, institutional, or large-scale commercial projects.
Experience working in active healthcare environments.
Strong scheduling, manpower planning, and project coordination experience.
Experience with testing, commissioning, certification, and system turnover.
Familiarity with BIM/VDC coordination and construction management software.
Ability to travel between jobsites.
Ability to work in active construction environments.
Ability to work around ladders, lifts, elevated work areas, and construction equipment.
Occasional lifting, climbing, bending, and extended periods standing or walking on jobsites.
Ability to work in healthcare, commercial, industrial, institutional, and other active project environments.
Ability to work varying schedules as required to meet project needs.
