The Manufacturing Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the powder coating, assembly, and shipping departments. This position will lead production employees, coordinate workflow, maintain quality and safety standards, and ensure products are completed and shipped accurately and on schedule.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader who can effectively manage employees, prioritize production demands, identify problems, and maintain a clean, safe, and organized manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Production & Powder Coating
- Supervise daily operations of the powder coating and production lines.
- Coordinate production schedules to meet customer and company deadlines.
- Monitor workflow from material preparation through powder coating, curing, inspection, assembly, and final packaging.
- Ensure parts are properly prepared, coated, cured, and inspected according to company quality standards.
- Monitor powder coating equipment and report maintenance or operational issues.
- Ensure proper color, finish, thickness, and overall quality of coated products.
- Minimize production downtime, material waste, rework, and scrap.
- Ensure employees are properly trained on equipment, processes, and safety procedures.
- Monitor production rates and employee productivity.
- Identify bottlenecks and implement solutions to improve efficiency.
Assembly Department
- Supervise assembly employees and ensure work is completed accurately and efficiently.
- Ensure employees follow work instructions, drawings, specifications, and established procedures.
- Verify that the correct parts, hardware, and materials are being used.
- Monitor assembly quality and address defects or recurring issues.
- Ensure completed products meet quality standards before moving to packaging or shipping.
- Coordinate with other departments to ensure assembly has the necessary materials and components.
- Assist with troubleshooting production and assembly issues.
Shipping & Receiving
- Oversee daily shipping operations and ensure customer orders are shipped accurately and on time.
- Verify quantities, part numbers, customer orders, and shipping documentation.
- Ensure products are properly packaged and protected from damage during transportation.
- Coordinate shipments with carriers and arrange pickups as needed.
- Ensure shipping employees properly label and document outgoing shipments.
- Monitor shipping schedules and prioritize urgent or time-sensitive orders.
- Investigate shipping errors, shortages, damages, or customer complaints and implement corrective actions.
- Maintain organization and accountability of finished goods awaiting shipment.
- Coordinate with inventory, sales, purchasing, and production to resolve order issues.
Employee Supervision & Leadership
- Supervise, train, coach, and evaluate production, assembly, and shipping employees.
- Assign daily responsibilities and ensure adequate staffing throughout the departments.
- Monitor attendance, punctuality, productivity, and employee performance.
- Hold employees accountable for following company policies and procedures.
- Address performance issues promptly and professionally.
- Promote teamwork, communication, and a positive work environment.
- Conduct regular department meetings to communicate goals, priorities, safety concerns, and production updates.
- Identify training needs and assist with employee development.
Quality Control
- Maintain high standards for product quality throughout the production process.
- Perform regular inspections of powder-coated and assembled products.
- Identify defects and ensure corrective action is taken.
- Track recurring quality problems and work with management to prevent them from occurring again.
- Ensure employees understand and follow quality standards and procedures.
- Help establish and maintain production quality checkpoints.
Safety & Housekeeping
- Enforce all company safety policies and OSHA requirements.
- Ensure employees properly use required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Conduct regular safety inspections of the powder coating, assembly, and shipping areas.
- Immediately address unsafe working conditions or behaviors.
- Ensure equipment is operated safely and properly.
- Maintain clean, organized, and hazard-free work areas.
- Promote a strong safety culture throughout the manufacturing facility.
- Report accidents, injuries, equipment damage, and safety concerns to management.
Inventory & Material Control
- Maintain accountability for raw materials, components, finished goods, and shipping materials.
- Monitor material usage and notify management of shortages or potential shortages.
- Ensure materials are stored properly and efficiently.
- Coordinate with inventory and purchasing to maintain adequate production materials.
- Help prevent material loss, damage, and unnecessary waste.
- Ensure finished products are properly identified and moved to the appropriate location.
Track key performance indicators (KPIs), including:
- Production output
- On-time completion
- Shipping accuracy
- Product quality
- Scrap and rework
- Labor productivity
- Downtime
- Safety performance
- Recommend improvements to production processes and workflow.
- Work with management to implement Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Identify opportunities to reduce costs, improve efficiency, and increase production capacity.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing, production, warehouse, powder coating, assembly, or shipping environment.
- Previous supervisory or leadership experience preferred.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and production workflow.
- Experience supervising employees and managing daily production activities.
- Ability to read and understand work orders, production documents, and basic technical drawings.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Basic computer skills and ability to learn company software and production systems.
- Ability to enforce company policies and hold employees accountable.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with powder coating operations.
- Experience with automotive or metal manufacturing.
- Experience with assembly-line production.
- Experience managing shipping and logistics operations.
- Knowledge of inventory management systems.
- Experience with ERP/MRP systems.
- Lean Manufacturing or continuous improvement experience.
- OSHA or other manufacturing safety training.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during the workday.
- Ability to lift and move materials as required.
- Ability to work around manufacturing equipment, powder coating operations, and shipping activities.
- Ability to wear required PPE.
- Ability to work in a manufacturing environment where noise, heat, dust, and industrial equipment may be present.
