Overview of the Role
The primary role of the Mortgage Specialist is to be a secondary Mortgage Originator as loan volume and staffing dictate.
Requirements:Mortgage Specialist Responsibilities
- Process all in-house mortgage loans from application to closing and ensure all documentation and disclosures conform to credit union policy and regulations.
- Maintain all physical mortgage loan files for both in house and loans processed by third party vendor.
- Maintain all servicing functions related to in house mortgage loans.
- Maintain daily tracking and reporting of mortgage pipeline.
- Communicate effectively with members and originators to obtain missing documents.
- Maintain effective, professional working relationships with third party vendors that are utilized throughout the mortgage process.
- Work closely with member’s throughout the mortgage process keeping them up to date on the status of their loan on a regular basis.
- Assist members to apply for preapprovals and mortgage applications, including collection of proper documentation and follow up through the entire mortgage process.
- Serve as a department liaison to follow up on outstanding mortgage files with third party lenders.
- Coordinate loan closings with members and attorney to ensure all parties are prepared for what their closing appointment.
- Prepare mortgage loan pay-offs and discharges as requested.
- Perform system maintenance as needed, such as payment adjustments.
- Cross train within the department to support all areas.
- Other duties as assigned.

- Complete training as assigned and continually search for opportunities to enhance one's ability and knowledge
- Effectively communicate with fellow employees and supervisors while maintaining a professional and courteous demeanor
- Protect member information by using discretion when discussing member matters and properly following all policies and procedures related to confidential information
- Help create a positive image for GPO by playing an active role in the community
Mortgage Specialist Qualifications
- A two-year college degree or completion of a specialized course of study at a business or trade school; or in lieu of a two-year degree, five years of similar experience.
- Determined and motivated individual with a positive attitude.
- Six months to two years of similar or related experience.
- Notary public
- MLO-certified
- Proficient in the use of computers, scanners, calculators and various software programs, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
Mortgage Specialist Physical Demands
- Sitting for prolonged periods of time
- Frequent computer usage and screen time
- Frequent typing and usage of fine motor skills

Actual compensation rate will be determined based on relevant experience.
