Job Description
Summary
The maintenance mechanic will maintain a close liaison with operational supervisors and personnel, supports groups, and other employees at the Gary site to oversee all maintenance activities for the SMS Gary Plant. This position reports directly to the Operations Manager.
The right candidate will:
1. Perform routine preventive maintenance and ensure that equipment continues to run smoothly, building systems operate efficiently, and the physical condition of buildings does not deteriorate.
2. Visually inspect and test machinery and equipment, using electrical and electronic test equipment.
3. Inspect drives, motors, and belts, check fluid levels, replace filters, and perform other maintenance actions.
4. Keep records of maintenance and repair work.
5. Install and repair electrical apparatus, such as transformers and wiring, and electrical and electronic components of machinery and equipment.
6. Repair and maintain machines and mechanical equipment in the plant.
7. Inspect and diagnose problems and determine the best way to correct them, utilizing blueprints, repair manuals, and parts catalogs.
8. Install machinery and equipment according to blueprints and other specifications
9. Coordinate outside contractors, oversee maintenance of air-conditioning and heating systems.
10. Liaise with the purchasing department to evaluate vendors and contractors.
11. Perform other duties as assigned by management.
What you'll need:
1. Experience as a maintenance mechanic, electrician, tooling or in another related technical field.
2. Self-motivation to identify, analyze and independently work to find solutions to flow issues is essential.
3. Ability to use normal PC skills, such as Excel, and Microsoft Office.
4. Outstanding problem solving and organizational skills.
5. Excellent communications skills, both written and oral.
