Position Overview:

The Director of Development is highly external-facing fundraiser responsible for expanding The Mob Museum's network of supporters and generating philanthropic revenue through individual giving, corporate partnerships and foundation support. Reporting to the Vice President of Advancement, the Director identifies and cultivates new prospects, manages an active portfolio of donors, directly solicits philanthropic support, and provides day-to-day leadership to the Development team. The Director plays a key role in growing the Museum's culture of philanthropy and achieving its financial goals while advancing the public understanding of organized crime's history and impact on American society.

Major Tasks and Responsibilities:

Prospect Development and Management

  • Proactively identify and qualify new individual, corporate and foundation prospects, continually expanding the Museum's philanthropic network and pipeline.
  • Develop and manage an active portfolio of prospects and donors, moving relationships strategically from identification through cultivation, solicitation and stewardship.
  • Lead prospect management and portfolio assignment in partnership with the Vice President of Advancement, ensuring prospects are appropriately qualified, assigned and consistently advanced.
  • Leverage existing donors, community partners, and other Museum stakeholders to secure introductions and develop new relationships.
  • Identify opportunities to transition prospects between annual, major and campaign giving strategies based on philanthropic interests, capacity and organizational priorities.

Individual and Major Giving

  • Lead strategies to significantly grow the Museum's Inner Circle giving program through prospect identification, cultivation, solicitation, renewal, and upgrades.
  • Personally cultivate, solicit, and steward individual donors and major gift prospects, identifying opportunities to deepen their engagement and philanthropic investment.
  • Develop customized proposals, correspondence and other solicitation materials that connect donor interests with Museum priorities.
  • Partner with the Vice President of Advancement, President & CEO, and other key individuals, on significant donor relationships and solicitations as appropriate.

Corporate and Foundation Giving

  • Develop and expand relationships with corporations, foundations, and other institutional funders to increase philanthropic support, sponsorships and partnerships.
  • Personally cultivate and solicit corporate and foundation representatives.
  • Develop customized sponsorship proposals, funding requests, and other solicitation materials in collaboration with the Development team and Vice President of Advancement.

Management & Leadership

  • Provide day-to-day leadership and direct supervision of the Manager of Giving and Strategic Partnerships establishing clear priorities, expectations and accountability for the Development team.
  • Foster a proactive, collaborative and results-oriented fundraising culture that values initiative, responsiveness and consistent follow-through.
  • Coach and develop team members, leveraging individual strengths and supporting professional growth.
  • Partner with the Vice President of Advancement to evaluate fundraising. performance, pipeline development and emerging opportunities.
  • Play a key role in the development of the annual budget including revenue targets and expense; manage the department budget in accordance with budgetary constraints and forecast expectations.
  • In the absence of the Vice-President of Advancement, serve in a temporary leadership capacity to ensure seamlessness of development activities and clarity of reporting lines.

Other Duties

  • Serve as an active external representative of the Museum, developing relationships and participating in community, business and donor activities that expand the Museum's network of prospective supporters.
  • Represent the Museum at donor events, community activities and other functions, including occasional evenings and weekends.
  • Act as host to Museum donors, prospects, VIPs and community partners.
  • Stay abreast of in-house exhibitions, educational programs, and related community events.
  • Demonstrate leadership in fostering an organizational culture that values innovation, promotes inclusion, and inspires excellence in the work environment.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:

Experience / Qualifications / Requirements:

  • 5 or more years of progressively responsible experience in nonprofit development, fundraising, business development, relationship management, sales, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated success building relationships, managing a prospect portfolio, and personally soliciting and securing annual commitments of $5,000 and above.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and confidence engaging philanthropists, senior executives, community leaders, board members and other high-level stakeholders.
  • Resourceful, self-directed and comfortable working with ambiguity, with demonstrated initiative and sound judgement.
  • Proven experience in budget-management, and the development and achievement of fundraising goals.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to develop compelling proposals, correspondence and solicitation materials.
  • Strong organizational and follow-through skills with the ability to manage multiple relationships, priorities and opportunities simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, and hold team members accountable.
  • Experience using a CRM or other donor/prospect management system.
  • General computer skills and software competency in Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Able to constantly operate a computer or other office productivity machinery.
  • Access to reliable transportation for travel within Las Vegas marketplace.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Nonprofit fundraising experience, particularly in individual and major giving, corporate partnerships or foundation relations.
  • Knowledge of and relationships within the Southern Nevada philanthropic, corporate, and civic communities.
  • Experience in a museum, cultural institution or other mission-driven organization.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field. Equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience will be considered.
