Description:

Under the direction of the Volunteer Manager, the Hospice Volunteer Coordinator assists in matching Hospice Volunteers with patients and families, provides ongoing volunteer support, and helps oversee volunteer program operations. This role plays an important part in enhancing the quality of end-of-life care through compassionate volunteer engagement, education, and coordination. This role is part-time, 15-20 hours per week and will begin as a temporary position (3 - 6 months) with the possibility for long term. Travel will also be required to make home visits.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Assess patients and families for volunteer support needs and coordinate appropriate volunteer assignments.
  • Provide ongoing end-of-life education, supervision, and skill development for Hospice Volunteers to ensure quality patient and family support across care settings.
  • Coordinate volunteer support activities and maintain communication with volunteers regarding assignments and patient needs.
  • Support accurate and timely volunteer documentation within the electronic medical record (EMR) system.
  • Assist with volunteer appreciation and recognition events.
  • Participate in educational programs and professional development opportunities.
  • In collaboration with the Volunteer Manager, complete annual volunteer evaluations and maintain ongoing documentation related to hospice clients and families.
  • Participate in monthly Hospice Volunteer Support and Education meetings, including opportunities for processing and honoring patient deaths.
Requirements:
  • Compassionate, empathetic, and sensitive to the needs of hospice patients and families.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with interdisciplinary hospice team members and volunteers.
  • Experience in volunteer coordination, healthcare, hospice, social services, or related field preferred.
  • Comfortable with end-of-life care discussions and emotional support environments.
  • Proficiency with electronic documentation systems and Microsoft Office applications preferred.
