Job Title: CNC Mill/Lathe Machinist

Job Type: Full Time

We are currently seeking CNC Mill/Lathe Machinist, 2nd shift.

Job Summary

Set up and operate 3, 4 & 5-axis CNC mill/Lathe machines for the aerospace & defense industry.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • None.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Position and secure machine workpieces using holding devices, measuring instruments, hand tools, and hoists.
  • Remove workpieces from machines, and check to ensure that they conform to specifications, using measuring instruments such as microscopes, gauges, calipers, and micrometers.
  • Verify alignment of workpieces on machines using measuring instruments such as rules, gauges, or calipers.
  • Move cutters or material manually or by turning handwheels or engaging automatic feeding mechanisms to mill workpieces to specifications.
  • Observe milling or planning machine operation and adjust controls to ensure conformance with specified tolerances.
  • Select cutting speeds, feed rates, and depths of cuts, applying knowledge of metal properties and shop mathematics.
  • Study blueprints, layouts, sketches, or work orders to assess workpiece specifications and to determine tooling instructions, tools and materials needed, and sequences of operations.
  • Compute dimensions, tolerances, and angles of workpieces or machines according to specifications and knowledge of metal properties and shop mathematics.
  • Move controls to set cutting specifications, position cutting tools and workpieces in relation to each other, and start machines.
  • Replace worn tools using hand tools and sharpen dull tools using bench grinders.
  • Select and install cutting tools and other accessories according to specifications using hand tools or power tools.
  • Turn valves or pull levers to start and regulate the flow of coolant or lubricant to work areas.
  • Record production output.
  • May load/unload, lift, and move material.
  • Following instructions based on work instructions.
  • Identify damages and report shortages or quality deficiencies.
  • Comply with company policies and legal guidelines.
  • Maintain a safe and orderly environment of the facilities.

Required Skills/Abilities

  • Good verbal communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of diverse high-speed machinery and measurement tools (caliper, micrometer, etc.)
  • Ability to read measuring devices and have basic math skills of addition & subtraction.
  • Set up, program, and operate one or more computerized or manual machines.
  • Responsible for troubleshooting and rectifying problems that may occur on the CNC machines.
  • Knowledge of CNC machines.
  • Ability to listen, understand, and follow directions.
  • Ability to work in a variety of roles.
  • Able to work overtime as needed.

Education and Experience

  • Minimum 2+ years of experience operating CNC milling machines
  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Physical Demands

  • This position is in a climate controlled environment.
  • Prolonged periods of standing and walking.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
  • Regularly lift, push, pull, and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Work Environment:

The employee may be exposed to extreme hot or cold temperatures, heights, and loud machinery or equipment. The employee may be exposed to hazardous chemicals.
