Job Description:
The truck driver position is expected to work as a valued member of the Logistic operations. This job will primarily consist of local vehicle operations involving positioning and moving trucks and trailers on and between NatureBest Facility and Costumers. On occasion, the deliveries will be required throughout the region.
Key Responsibilities:
• Transportation & Delivery Operations: Safely operate Class A commercial vehicles, including refrigerated tractor-trailers. Complete regional delivery routes throughout Texas, including Austin, San Antonio, Temple, Dallas/Fort Worth, and surrounding markets. Perform deliveries to Louisiana and other assigned regional destinations. Support local delivery routes and inter-facility transfers as operational needs require. Ensure all deliveries are completed accurately, professionally, and on schedule. Follow all customer, company, DOT, and transportation requirements.
• Food Safety & Product Protection: Maintain proper reefer temperatures to preserve product quality and freshness. Verify trailer temperature settings before, during, and after transportation. Ensure load security and product integrity during transit. Follow all food safety, sanitation, and GMP requirements during loading, unloading, and transportation activities. Immediately report any temperature deviations or product concerns.
• Vehicle Inspection & Compliance: Conduct thorough pre-trip, post-trip, and in-route inspections. Complete all DOT-required logs, inspection reports, and transportation records accurately. Maintain compliance with Hours of Service regulations. Report vehicle maintenance needs and safety concerns promptly. Ensure all required permits, registrations, and documentation remain current.
• Loading, Unloading & Product Transfers: Assist with loading and unloading pallets when required. Operate manual pallet jacks safely and efficiently. Verify shipment accuracy, counts, lot codes, and documentation during pickups and deliveries. Support warehouse and transportation teams with product transfers between facilities.
• Communication & Teamwork: Maintain professional communication with customers, warehouse personnel, production teams, and management. Provide timely updates regarding route status, delays, or transportation issues. Support operational needs by adjusting schedules and routes when necessary. Assist with special projects and transportation assignments as directed.
• All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
• Valid Class A CDL
• Minimum 5 years of commercial driving experience
• Ability to pass all DOT requirements, including drug screening and background checks
• Current DOT Medical Card preferred; company certification assistance may be available for qualified candidates
• Experience operating refrigerated (reefer) trailers
• Experience with manual transmission (manual speed) preferred
• Clean driving record with demonstrated commitment to safe driving practices
• Ability to work flexible schedules, including weekends and varying start times
Preferred Skills:
• Experience transporting fresh produce or other perishable food products.
• Knowledge of food safety and cold-chain transportation requirements.
• Experience with regional and multi-stop routes.
• Forklift or pallet jack experience.
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
Work Environment:
• Work is performed primarily in commercial trucks, refrigerated trailers, distribution centers, warehouses, and production facilities.
• Frequent travel throughout Texas and Louisiana.
• Most regional routes are day trips with drivers typically returning home the same day.
• Exposure to varying weather conditions, traffic, and road environments.
• Regular entry into production facilities, warehouses, coolers, and loading docks.
• Required to follow all PPE guidelines when entering production or warehouse areas, which may include hairnets, beard nets, safety vests, gloves, and other required protective equipment.
• Closed-toe, slip-resistant safety footwear is required at all times.
• Exposure to refrigerated environments during loading and unloading activities.
• Availability required for any day of the week, including weekends, based on business needs.
Physical Requirements:
• Ability to sit and operate commercial vehicles for extended periods.
• Ability to enter and exit truck cabs multiple times throughout the day.
• Frequent walking, bending, reaching, climbing, and securing loads.
• Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds regularly.
• Ability to operate manual pallet jacks and move palletized freight.
• Ability to secure and inspect loads safely.
• Ability to work in refrigerated environments and varying weather conditions.
• Visual and auditory ability to safely operate commercial vehicles and respond to road conditions.
• Ability to wear required PPE when entering production, warehouse, and loading areas.
