Job Description
Position Summary
The Crisis Intervention Nurse provides a vital role in ensuring individuals experiencing a mental health crisis receive timely, compassionate, and coordinated care. This position serves as a clinical resource and liaison between consumers, families, and medical services, behavioral health providers, and community resources. The Crisis Intervention Nurse Navigator will ensure each consumer’s physical, emotional, and psychological needs are addressed with dignity and efficiency, promoting safety and continuity of care.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
- Successful completion of the Crisis Intervention Specialist Training
- Management of telephone, text line, walk-in, and mobile crisis services
- Conducting prescreens and all related tasks necessary for completion
- Completing Drug and Alcohol treatment follow up calls and documentation
- Answering calls for CRS/ARMOT Requests on a 24-hour basis
- Providing clinical intervention and support to individuals in crisis, attempting to divert out of home placement when possible
- Attempting up to three (3) telephone and/or in-person follow-ups after the initial contact with crisis consumer
- Answering after-hours calls with contracted providers and completing necessary follow-up measures
- Providing accurate information and referral to resources and agency contacts
- Facilitating Delegate Requests with participating entities and maintaining appropriate follow-up
- Completion of required trainings and attendance at monthly CIS staff meetings
- Accurate and timely completion of all required paperwork to include but not limited to crisis assessment forms, expense reports, and time sheets
- Performing other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
- Current and active Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Registered Nurse (RN) license in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, in good standing
- Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, Criminology, Nursing or another Health and Human Services related field preferred
- At least 1 year experience in Mental Health or related field preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of crisis intervention and crisis resolution
- Knowledge of PA Mental Procedures Act
- Understanding of Mental Health diagnostic criterion and Mental Health vocabulary
- Knowledge of Mental health community resources and admission procedures
- Knowledge of the disease of chemical dependency and the family disease of chemical dependency
- Knowledge of community resources including self-help groups
- Ability to express unconditional positive regard towards all contacts
- Ability to express ideas orally, in writing, and electronically via computer software
- Ability to work with clients/consumers and gain their confidence
- Ability to evaluate/assess the need for medical and/or psychiatric attention
- Ability to provide initial assessment/evaluation services for clients/consumers
- Ability to appropriately assist contacts through the process of obtaining services
