Job Description

SUMMARY

The Tooling & Asset Manager is responsible for improving how Premise equips and supports field teams through effective tool and asset management, field support, inventory control, purchasing, maintenance, and continuous improvement initiatives. This field-oriented role regularly engages employees at jobsites to identify operational challenges, develop practical solutions, and implement approved improvements that enhance safety, productivity, accountability, and cost efficiency.

The position owns the lifecycle management of company tools and field-tooling assets, including inventory, assignment, tracking, mobilization, maintenance, calibration, utilization, loss prevention, and standardization. The Tooling & Asset Manager partners closely with Operations and field leadership to ensure crews have the right tools, in the right condition, at the right time while supporting company goals, budgets, and performance expectations.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Regularly visit jobsites to engage with field employees, assess work practices, and identify opportunities to improve tooling, storage, organization, productivity, and asset accountability.
  • Lead strategic sourcing initiatives, contract negotiations, and pricing agreements with tooling, equipment, and asset vendors. Cultivate strong supplier partnerships to maximize purchasing power, drive cost savings, ensure equipment availability, and support operational and project objectives.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records for company-owned tools and equipment, including assignment, transfer, return, location tracking, condition monitoring, and accountability.
  • Develop and manage systems for issuing, tracking, recovering, and auditing tools across employees, crews, vehicles, trailers, and projects. Implement and maintain asset-tracking technologies, including barcode, QR code, RFID, GPS, or similar platforms where practical.
  • Establish tool standards and minimum tooling requirements for crews, projects, vehicles, and jobsite operations. Ensure projects are properly equipped during startup and that all assets are recovered and reconciled during project closeout.
  • Manage inspections, maintenance, repairs, warranties, replacements, calibrations, and related documentation to ensure tools remain safe, compliant, and operational. Remove damaged or unsafe equipment from service as required.
  • Evaluate, select, test, and standardize tools, manufacturers, suppliers, and asset management solutions based on safety, productivity, durability, cost, availability, and field performance.
  • Develop practical tooling and productivity solutions, pilot improvements, train users, monitor results, and drive successful implementation across the organization.
  • Monitor tool utilization, downtime, repair costs, losses, and other performance indicators to identify trends, improve operational effectiveness, and reduce unnecessary expenses.
  • Establish and enforce procedures that reduce lost, stolen, damaged, or unreturned assets through accountability systems, security practices, storage standards, audits, and reporting requirements.
  • Support Operations, Project Managers, Superintendents, and field leadership with tooling needs, mobilization planning, project readiness, and ongoing field support.
  • Communicate progress, challenges, recommendations, and project status updates while driving assigned initiatives through completion.
  • Partner with the Fleet & Equipment Manager as needed while maintaining clear ownership of company tools and field-tooling solutions
