Component Prep Technician in Augusta, Georgia at Shepeard Community Blood Center

Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Lab Team leader, prepare blood components from donor blood in accordance with FDA and AABB guidelines to ensure the safety of blood products for patient use and further manufacturing.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Prepare blood components following standard operating procedures.
• Assist in quality control functions to ensure accuracy and reliability.
• Adhere to SCBC/department policies, procedures, and guidelines.
• Support other team members in the laboratory and Hospital Services, promoting positive customer relations to achieve internal harmony and repeat business.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Scope of Authority/Reporting

• Perform assigned daily routines promptly.
• Work collaboratively with departmental employees as a team to provide the highest quality service to donors and customers.
• Report to the Assistant Director of Technical Services or their designee.

Qualifications

Education

• High School diploma or GED.

Experience

• Previous experience in a healthcare or laboratory setting.

Knowledge and Skills

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective interaction with co-workers and SCBC personnel.
• Basic computer skills.
• Ability to function autonomously in a laboratory setting, demonstrating both initiative and dependability.
• Physical capability to perform manual labor while standing 100% of the time, with occasional lifting and handling of objects up to sixty (60) pounds.
• Successful completion of on-the-job training/orientation within six (6) months.

Licenses/Certifications

• Not required.

Physical Skills & Requirements

• Regularly stand, walk, reach, stoop, kneel, bend, twist, and push/pull.

Working Conditions

• Work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays.
• Operate within a laboratory environment with potential exposure to blood-borne pathogens.
• Perform repetitive and standardized tasks.
• Ability to fractionate blood within specified time periods after collection.
