Job Description
The Sales Buyer manages customer-to-business acquisitions of trading cards and collectibles. They guide the customer through intake, oversee the evaluation workflow, verify accuracy, prepare and negotiate offers within company parameters, and ensure transactions are properly documented and completed. This role focuses on customer service, organization, quality control, negotiation, and workflow management, not manual card-by-card pricing.
Key Responsibilities:Customer Intake & ExperienceGreet and onboard selling customers.
Explain the buying process and set expectations.
Ensure all required forms and customer information are completed.
Maintain professional communication throughout the transaction.
Conduct an initial review of the collection.
Identify items needing detailed evaluation vs. bulk.
Organize and label collections for efficient processing.
Maintain secure chain of custody.
Track every active acquisition and its current stage.
Coordinate handoffs to Data Auditors.
Follow up on stalled evaluations.
Manage multiple acquisitions simultaneously.
Review completed evaluations for accuracy.
Verify card identity, version, quantity, condition, and pricing.
Identify missing, duplicated, or incorrect entries.
Escalate questionable evaluations.
Conduct additional research on higher‑value or unusual items.
Prepare offers within approved acquisition ranges.
Consider liquidity, demand, inventory needs, and market conditions.
Present offers confidently.
Handle objections professionally.
Re-evaluate items when appropriate.
Know when to escalate, hold firm, or decline acquisitions.
Maintain clean documentation and tracking sheets.
Record customer info, notes, offers, and transaction status.
Ensure digital and physical records match.
Process payouts correctly (cash, store credit, etc.).
Provide required receipts and documentation.
Close out acquisitions in all systems.
Escalate high-value, suspicious, unusual, or complex transactions.
Follow counterfeit and conflict-of-interest procedures.
Strong customer service and communication skills
High attention to detail and organizational ability
Basic numerical confidence and spreadsheet proficiency
Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
Comfort discussing money and negotiating
Critical thinking and willingness to learn trading card markets
Experience with trading card games or collectibles
Prior retail, customer service, or negotiation experience
Familiarity with Google Sheets or similar tools
Ability to identify card conditions or spot discrepancies

Hands-on experience with trading card markets and collectibles

Paid Time Off: 20 days annually, subject to blackout dates based on event scheduling
