Job Description

Vice President of Consumer Loans & Mortgages

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced, strategic lending leader to serve as Vice President of Consumer Loans & Mortgages. In this executive role, you will lead the credit union’s consumer and residential mortgage lending functions, drive sustainable portfolio growth and profitability, strengthen the member experience, and maintain sound credit quality and regulatory compliance throughout the lending lifecycle.

You will develop and execute lending strategies aligned with the credit union’s strategic plan, guide cross-functional partnerships, and oversee product development, origination, processing, underwriting, closing, funding, and portfolio management.

What You’ll Do
  • Develop and execute an integrated strategy for consumer and residential mortgage lending, with clear goals for production, growth, profitability, service, credit quality, and risk.
  • Direct consumer lending programs, including personal loans and lines of credit, credit cards, direct and indirect auto lending, and other secured and unsecured products.
  • Lead residential mortgage origination, processing, underwriting, closing, funding, portfolio lending, and secondary-market or investor delivery.
  • Recommend pricing, underwriting standards, credit policy, approval authorities, risk models, concentration limits, and operating procedures.
  • Monitor portfolio performance, delinquencies, charge-offs, exceptions, quality-control results, fair-lending indicators, and market trends; take timely corrective action.
  • Lead and develop lending managers and staff through clear goals, coaching, training, accountability, and succession planning.
  • Improve lending systems, workflows, reporting, vendor relationships, controls, operational efficiency, and the member experience.
  • Partner with Retail, Operations, Finance, Marketing, Compliance, Risk, IT, auditors, regulators, and other stakeholders; exercise delegated loan approval authority as needed.
  • What You’ll Bring

    Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, finance, economics, or a related field.
  • At least 10 years of progressively responsible lending experience, including significant leadership responsibility for both consumer and residential mortgage lending in a credit union, bank, or comparable financial institution.
  • Demonstrated expertise in lending strategy, portfolio management, underwriting, operations, secondary-market or investor requirements, regulatory compliance, budgeting, and team development.
  • Executive-level leadership, sound judgment, strong analytical ability, and a record of translating strategy into measurable results.
  • Strong financial analysis, portfolio reporting, negotiation, presentation, written communication, and technology skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with senior leadership, the Board or applicable committees, regulators, auditors, vendors, employees, and members.
  • Ability to influence across functions, manage competing priorities, lead through change, and handle confidential matters with discretion.
  • Any registration or licensing required for the position, including NMLS registration when applicable.
  • Compensation & Benefits

We offer a competitive salary range of $100,000 to $140,000, along with benefits designed to support your professional and personal well-being:

    • 401(k) retirement plan options with up to 5% employer match
    • Paid time off
    • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
    • Educational reimbursement, business travel reimbursement, and additional credit union benefits
    Work Environment & Expectations

This is primarily a sedentary, office-based position requiring regular use of standard office equipment and a computer for extended periods. The role requires reliable attendance, the ability to manage multiple changing priorities, composure under deadlines, careful attention to accuracy and quality, occasional travel or extended hours when needed, and the ability to lift up to 10 lbs. The successful candidate must work effectively independently and collaboratively while maintaining the highest level of professionalism, member service, and confidentiality.
