POSITION SUMMARY

The Assistant Project Manager (APM) supports the full-cycle execution of civil construction projects under the direction of a Project Manager. This role bridges office and field operations by coordinating project documentation, schedules, materials, and subcontractors while ensuring compliance with permits, safety requirements, and company standards. The APM manages smaller-scale projects independently and assists the Project Manager on larger projects, ensuring quality, efficiency, and alignment with scope, schedule, and budget.

YOUR ROLE

  • Manage smaller projects with limited PM oversight, while supporting larger projects as assigned.
  • Review project documents, contracts, and specifications with the PM to confirm scope, schedule, and budget alignment.
  • Coordinate permitting, subcontractor documentation, and project setup to ensure readiness for mobilization.
  • Prepare and update project schedules in Primavera, track daily field production, and maintain cost codes in Spectrum/HeavyJob.
  • Lead procurement on assigned jobs, including purchase orders, delivery scheduling, reconciliation, and ticket coding against budgets.
  • Maintain standardized logs for RFIs, submittals, change orders, permits, and locates, ensuring compliance and timely responses.
  • Support field leaders with schedule lookaheads, staging, equipment planning, and sequencing of work activities.
  • Conduct site visits to verify safety compliance, work zone setups, and proper documentation practices.
  • Track subcontractor performance, invoices, and adherence to scopes, supporting pay applications and cost forecasts.
  • Build relationships with inspectors, owners, and subcontractors through consistent communication and participation in project meetings.
  • Assist in project closeout, including redlines, as-builts, retainage release, and final deliverables.
  • Mentor Project Coordinators and assist with onboarding and training of new administrative team members.
  • Use company platforms such as Procore, SharePoint, Spectrum, HeavyJob, Bluebeam, and Primavera to maintain project records and reporting.
  • Participate in EOS and project meetings by providing updates on schedule, permits, documentation, and risk items.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, contributing to organizational success as business needs evolve.

WHAT YOU BRING

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field preferred; equivalent work experience considered.
  • 3+ years of experience in civil construction project coordination, administration, or management.
  • Proficiency in scheduling software (Primavera P6 preferred) and construction management systems (Procore, Spectrum, HeavyJob).
  • Strong knowledge of civil construction processes, permitting, subcontractor management, and safety compliance.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret contracts, drawings, and specifications.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The Assistant Project Manager is required to regularly sit, stand, and walk between office and field environments. Occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds may be required when handling project documents or materials. The role requires close vision for computer work, field observation, and the ability to adjust focus. Work occurs in both office and jobsite settings, with exposure to construction environments and moderate risk factors.

BENEFITS

  • Competitive medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • Company-paid basic dental, life insurance, and short- and long-term disability
  • Voluntary benefits including life, accident, critical illness, and pet insurance
