This strategic Medical Affairs leadership role is responsible for shaping and executing enterprise-wide engagement with key nephrology professional societies, guideline bodies, and scientific advisory organizations. The position goes beyond traditional stakeholder management, focusing on building long-term scientific collaborations that influence disease understanding, care standards, and healthcare system outcomes. The Director will act as a central connector across Medical Affairs, Patient Advocacy, Government Affairs, and Commercial teams to ensure aligned, compliant, and impactful external engagement strategies. This role plays a key part in advancing scientific leadership within nephrology by identifying opportunities for collaborative initiatives such as guideline participation, disease education, and implementation science programs. It requires a deep understanding of the external scientific ecosystem and the ability to translate strategic priorities into meaningful partnerships. - Develop and lead a multi-year strategic engagement plan across major nephrology professional societies and scientific organizations, including national and international associations and guideline bodies.
- Serve as the primary Medical Affairs lead for professional societies, advisory councils, and scientific committees, ensuring consistent and strategic external engagement.
- Expand engagement beyond traditional congress participation to long-term, value-driven scientific collaborations with key opinion leaders and professional organizations.
- Map and analyze society structures, committees, and guideline panels to identify influence pathways and strategic opportunities for engagement.
- Lead strategy and execution for guideline engagement, ensuring alignment between evidence generation plans, publications, and external scientific cycles.
- Partner cross-functionally with Clinical Development, Evidence Generation, HEOR, and Scientific Communications to align scientific output with guideline and policy timelines.
- Identify and develop collaborative initiatives with professional societies, including disease education programs, implementation science projects, and Centers of Excellence models.
- Ensure alignment between professional society engagement, patient advocacy initiatives, and government affairs strategies to support cohesive external positioning.
- Establish governance frameworks and KPIs to measure impact beyond sponsorships, including guideline influence, educational adoption, and scientific collaboration outcomes.
- Provide strategic insights and recommendations to Medical Affairs leadership based on external scientific and policy developments.
- Advanced scientific degree (MD, PharmD, or PhD) in a relevant life sciences field.
- 6+ years of experience in Medical Affairs or related functions within the biopharmaceutical industry, ideally in nephrology or rare disease areas.
- Proven experience engaging with professional societies, guideline committees, scientific advisory boards, or similar external scientific bodies.
- Strong track record of building strategic, non-transactional partnerships with external stakeholders beyond sponsorship-based models.
- Deep understanding of the scientific, clinical, and policy landscape within nephrology or comparable therapeutic areas.
- Strong cross-functional collaboration skills, particularly across Medical Affairs, Government Affairs, and Patient Advocacy functions.
- Demonstrated ability to translate complex scientific and clinical insights into structured engagement strategies and initiatives.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence senior internal and external stakeholders.
- Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a complex environment.
- High ethical standards and strong understanding of compliance and regulatory requirements in external scientific engagement.
- Willingness to travel up to 40% for congresses, scientific meetings, and stakeholder engagements, with occasional evening or weekend commitments.
