Job Description
Meriwether Godsey is looking for a Full-time Baker, responsible for the preparation, cooking, and presentation of baked goods for daily meals and special events at a boarding and day school for students in grades 9-12 in Newtown, PA.
What you will do:
- Ensure quality and timeliness of food production, using batch-cooking methods to maintain the quality and freshness of the product.
- Use traditional, made-from-scratch preparation methods and keep accurate production logs.
- Ensuring that the daily bakery range is made to a high standard in a timely, safe, and consistent manner.
- Prepare doughs, fillings, batters, icings, and other components by measuring or weighing ingredients using graduated containers or scales to ensure uniformity.
- Use tools such as hand mixers, electric mixers, and cooking machinery to blend together ingredients to create high-quality baked goods.
- Cook prepared baked goods in ovens or on grills as needed, using molds, pans, or sheets, depending on the proper baking technique for the item.
- Decorate cakes, pastries, and other baked goods, including custom-made decorations for birthdays, weddings, and other special events.
- Work collaboratively alongside other production staff to incorporate key ingredients/products into recipe and menu offerings daily
- Will assist in the production of some savory foods including some composed and bound salads and other items as needed
- Assist in maintaining quality and performing tasks quickly and efficiently
- Adhere to food safety, and sanitation standards, and all HACCP recordings
What you need:
- Must be able to pass an FBI background check
- Culinary Degree or 1-3 years of bakery experience required
- Must be able to pass an FBI background check
- Minimum 2 years of experience with high-volume food service operations, preferably in school environments.
- High levels of professionalism and strong leadership skills
- Excellent communication and good organizational skills
- Flexibility; ability to switch between locations and job duties
- Growing knowledge of sustainable practices.
- ServSafe® Food Protection Manager Certification preferred
