Job Description
THE ROLE
The Janitorial Lead is responsible for overseeing daily cleaning operations, ensuring all public and back-of-house spaces are maintained to the highest standards of cleanliness, safety, and presentation. This role leads the janitorial team, coordinates workflows across assigned zones, and serves as the primary point of contact for cleanliness-related issues during operating hours and events.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Lead, train, and supervise janitorial staff across all assigned areas
Monitor team performance and provide real-time coaching and feedback
Serve as the point of contact for janitorial staff and escalate issues to management as needed
Oversee and participate in daily cleaning tasks, including:
Restroom sanitation and restocking
Floor care (sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, spot cleaning)
Trash removal and recycling
Dusting and surface cleaning across all facility areas
Ensure high-touch areas are cleaned and disinfected regularly
Maintain cleanliness standards in both guest-facing and back-of-house areas
Conduct routine walkthroughs to inspect cleanliness and identify areas needing attention
Ensure specialized spaces (e.g., exhibits or sensitive environments) are cleaned according to guidelines
Monitor janitorial supply levels and communicate restocking needs
Ensure proper use and storage of cleaning chemicals and equipment
Ensure adherence to all safety procedures and OSHA guidelines
Train staff on proper chemical handling, equipment usage, and emergency procedures
Respond to and manage spills, hazards, and urgent cleaning needs promptly
Communicate regularly with management regarding facility conditions, staffing needs, and operational updates
Report maintenance issues or repairs needed within the facility
QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, the candidate must be able to perform each essential duty above at the highest levels. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
2+ years of janitorial or custodial experience, with at least 1 year in a leadership or supervisory role
Strong knowledge of cleaning procedures, equipment, and safety standards
Ability to lead teams in a fast-paced, guest-facing environment
Strong organizational and communication skills
Bilingual speaker (Spanish & English) a plus!
Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
