Job Description
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Safety AV Engineer based in Canada.
This role offers the opportunity to contribute to complex, high-tech automotive projects focused on safety-critical advanced vehicle systems. You’ll support the design, analysis, and validation of safety features across ADAS, electrical and electronic architectures, actuators, and sensors. Your work will help ensure system robustness and compliance with functional safety standards throughout the development lifecycle. You’ll collaborate closely with software, electrical, and vehicle subsystem specialists in a multidisciplinary engineering environment. The position combines technical safety analysis with system verification, validation, requirements development, and failure-mode mitigation. Based in Montreal, it is well suited to engineers who want to work on advanced mobility technologies and contribute to systems where safety and reliability are fundamental.
- Conduct functional safety analyses for advanced vehicle systems using methodologies such as FMEA, STPA, and SOTIF, identifying hazards, failure modes, and potential risks across complex automotive subsystems.
- Support system design verification and validation activities, helping demonstrate that safety requirements are properly implemented and that systems meet applicable functional safety expectations.
- Collaborate with software, electrical, and vehicle subsystem engineering teams to integrate safety requirements throughout system design and development.
- Develop, maintain, and organize safety documentation, including safety requirements, hazard analyses, verification evidence, and supporting technical documentation.
- Identify potential failure modes and system weaknesses across advanced vehicle components and contribute to effective mitigation strategies.
- Support the continuous improvement of safety-critical engineering practices while maintaining a strong focus on system robustness, traceability, and compliance.
- You have a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field.
- You have experience working with functional safety in automotive systems and familiarity with standards such as ISO 26262 and ISO 21448.
- You have practical knowledge of one or more safety analysis methodologies, including FMEA, STPA, or SOTIF.
- You have familiarity with ADAS or other advanced vehicle subsystems, with an understanding of their safety and system-level considerations.
- You are comfortable collaborating across multidisciplinary engineering teams and can communicate technical safety concepts clearly with software, electrical, and vehicle subsystem specialists.
- You bring strong analytical, problem-solving, documentation, and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively on safety-critical engineering challenges.
- The position is fully based in Montreal, and candidates currently located in Europe should be open to relocating to Canada. The role is full-time and permanent, with eligibility and selection subject to the applicable employment requirements.
- Hybrid work arrangement in Montreal.
- Industry-leading medical, dental, and vision insurance.
- Access to a telemedicine service.
- RRSP program.
- Personal and sick days.
- Recreation room with pool table and foosball table.
- Opportunity to contribute to advanced automotive and safety-critical technology projects in a high-tech engineering environment.
- A workplace committed to diversity, inclusion, and equal opportunity, with encouragement for candidates from diverse backgrounds and people with disabilities to apply.
