Anticipated Period: Approximately 14 weeks beginning September 8, 2026
Schedule: Day Shift – 40 hours per week, Monday–Friday (5x8) or Monday–Thursday (4x10), as directed by shipyard
• TMMG is seeking an experienced Senior Waterfront / Liaison Engineer to provide full-time, on-site engineering support to shipyard during the USS Beloit (LCS-29) Post Shakedown Availability (PSA) at BAE Systems Jacksonville Ship Repair in Jacksonville, Florida.
• The engineer will serve as TMMG's on-site technical representative and a primary waterfront engineering Point of Contact supporting shipyard personnel, shipyard trades, and sub-vendors during execution of shipboard work. The position requires an experienced, hands-on waterfront engineer capable of independently investigating shipboard technical and workmanship issues, developing practical technical recommendations, and assisting shipyard with the adjudication of Trial Cards and deficiencies encountered during the availability.
• The primary anticipated workload involves structural pipe-hanger deficiencies and Remove & Replace (R&R) corrective actions; however, the engineer must possess sufficient shipbuilding and marine engineering experience to evaluate workmanship and technical issues across multiple ship systems and disciplines.
• This is a waterfront execution position requiring an individual who can operate independently aboard ship, communicate effectively with engineering and production personnel, and rapidly identify practical solutions while recognizing that final engineering disposition, design approval, and Trial Card closure authority remain with shipyard and the appropriate Government/Design Authority.
Requirements:Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Senior Waterfront/ Liaison Engineer will:
• Serve as the full-time, on-site engineering Point of Contact supporting shipyard during the LCS-29 PSA.
• Provide direct waterfront engineering support to shipyard personnel, shipyard trades, and shipyard sub-vendors performing shipboard work.
• Investigate shipboard deficiencies, workmanship discrepancies, Trial Cards, and technical issues identified during execution of the availability.
• Evaluate deficiencies and develop technically sound, practical recommendations to support timely resolution and minimize impact to waterfront production and schedule.
• Provide engineering support for the implementation and adjudication of NAVSEA 4E work items and associated shipboard corrective actions.
• Support the resolution of structural pipe-hanger deficiencies, including evaluation of conditions requiring Remove & Replace (R&R) corrective action.
• Evaluate general manufacturing and trade-workmanship deficiencies affecting mechanical, piping, structural, electrical, and other shipboard systems within the engineer's demonstrated areas of competence.
• Review applicable drawings, technical requirements, work specifications, NAVSEA Standard Items, MIL-spec requirements, previous LCS technical solutions, and other available technical information when investigating waterfront issues.
• Utilize applicable lessons learned and previously approved LCS-class technical solutions, where appropriate, to support efficient resolution of recurring shipboard conditions.
• Assist shipyard with investigation and technical adjudication of Trial Cards while clearly identifying issues requiring elevation to shipyard Engineering or the appropriate Government/Design Authority.
• Coordinate technical issues with shipyard waterfront management, engineering personnel, production personnel, subcontractors, and other stakeholders as required.
• Clearly communicate the technical basis, recommended corrective action, status, and remaining actions associated with assigned deficiencies.
• Maintain diligent and continuous communication with shipyard management regarding open technical issues, investigation status, recommended solutions, schedule concerns, and matters requiring management attention.
• Maintain sufficient working records and supporting information to provide traceability of technical recommendations and ongoing waterfront issues.
• Immediately identify potential scope growth or requests for work outside the authorized scope to TMMG and shipyard management before performing the additional work.
• Support additional related waterfront engineering activities when specifically authorized by shipyard and TMMG.
Technical Responsibilities
The engineer is expected to possess sufficient technical breadth to evaluate issues involving multiple shipboard systems. Experience should include several of the following areas:
• Ship structures and foundations
• Pipe systems and pipe supports/hangers
• Machinery installations
• Mechanical systems
• Auxiliary systems
• Electrical installations and equipment interfaces
• Equipment foundations
• Shipboard arrangements and interferences
• Structural and mechanical workmanship
• Drawing and configuration discrepancies
• Ship alteration and repair requirements
• NAVSEA Standard Items
• NAVSEA 4E work specifications/work items
• MIL-specification requirements
• Trial Cards and deficiency adjudication
• Shipboard testing and waterfront production support
The engineer is not expected to personally serve as the design authority for every technical discipline. The position requires the experience and judgment to recognize technical conditions, conduct an appropriate initial investigation, develop recommendations within the engineer's area of expertise, and promptly elevate matters requiring specialized analysis or formal design-authority disposition.
Work Location and Schedule
• This position is expected to be performed full-time on site at BAE Systems Jacksonville Ship Repair in Jacksonville, Florida during the USS Beloit PSA.
• The anticipated availability is approximately 14 weeks beginning September 8, 2026.
• The baseline work schedule is 40 hours per week on day shift, structured as either:
• Monday–Friday, 8 hours per day; or
• Monday–Thursday, 10 hours per day,
• as coordinated with shipyard.
• Overtime, weekend, or holiday support is not anticipated and shall not be performed without prior authorization.
• The current planning baseline assumes no on-site effort during the calendar weeks containing the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays.
Desired Candidate Profile
• The ideal candidate is an experienced Navy shipbuilding or ship-repair engineer who is equally comfortable aboard the ship, reviewing a drawing, talking with a pipefitter or shipyard supervisor, and explaining a technical recommendation to shipyard engineering and program management.
• This position requires more than a traditional design engineer. TMMG is seeking an experienced waterfront problem solver who understands how ships are built and repaired, can recognize deficient workmanship, can rapidly determine what technical information is required to resolve an issue, and knows when a condition can be resolved at the waterfront versus when it must be elevated to the formal Engineering/Design Authority.
• Prior LCS experience and demonstrated ability to independently resolve waterfront technical issues are strongly preferred.
Experience
The successful candidate should possess:
• Extensive experience supporting U.S. Navy ship construction, repair, modernization, or availability execution.
• Prior experience in waterfront engineering, liaison engineering, shipbuilding engineering, production engineering, or ship-repair engineering.
• Demonstrated experience independently investigating and resolving shipboard technical and workmanship issues.
• Working knowledge of multiple shipboard systems and the interfaces between engineering, production, testing, and waterfront execution.
• Familiarity with NAVSEA requirements, Navy ship-repair practices, NAVSEA Standard Items, MIL-spec requirements, technical work packages, drawings, and shipboard configuration documentation.
• Experience supporting shipboard deficiencies, Trial Cards, Condition Found Reports, work items, or similar deficiency/adjudication processes.
• Ability to interpret ship drawings, technical specifications, work packages, equipment documentation, and engineering requirements.
Highly Desired Experience
• Preference will be given to candidates possessing:
• Prior Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) experience.
• Previous LCS shipbuilding, post-delivery, PSA, waterfront, or liaison-engineering experience.
• Familiarity with Freedom-variant LCS construction and shipboard systems.
• Experience resolving LCS pipe-hanger, foundation, structural, or workmanship deficiencies.
• Previous experience supporting Fincantieri Marinette Marine or other Navy shipbuilders.
• Previous shipyard or Navy waterfront engineering experience.
• Experience supporting NAVSEA 4E work items and NAVSEA Standard Items.
• Experience working directly with shipyard production trades and subcontractors.
• Experience supporting Trial Card investigation and adjudication.

• Authority and Limitations
• The Senior Waterfront/ Liaison Engineer provides technical investigation, recommendations, coordination, and engineering support to shipyard.
• The engineer does not possess final engineering disposition, design approval, or Trial Card closure authority unless separately and specifically delegated in writing.
• Final engineering disposition, formal design approval, and Trial Card closure remain the responsibility of shipyard and the appropriate Government/ Design Authority.
• Formal engineering reports, calculations, drawing revisions, or redlines are not baseline deliverables unless specifically requested and authorized through the applicable contractual process.
• Any requested activity outside the established scope shall be identified to TMMG and shipyard management and shall not be performed without appropriate authorization.

• Be physically capable of working aboard an active U.S. Navy vessel and within an operating shipyard environment.
• Be capable of climbing ladders and accessing machinery spaces, tanks, compartments, and other shipboard areas as required and permitted.
• Be capable of working around active industrial operations while complying with all applicable PPE and shipyard safety requirements.
Education/Certification Requirements
• Bachelor's degree in Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Structural Engineering, or another closely related engineering discipline is preferred
