This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Software Advisory Senior Consultant based in the United States.
This role combines financial analysis, commercial strategy, and enterprise technology advisory to help clients make smarter software investment decisions.
You will analyze complex financial, operational, contractual, pricing, and utilization data to uncover meaningful insights and opportunities.
The position offers significant ownership, with responsibility for building sophisticated models, evaluating scenarios, and developing business cases.
You will work across enterprise software, SaaS, and cloud environments while collaborating with consultants, client stakeholders, and senior decision-makers.
Your analysis will help clients optimize costs, assess risks, evaluate strategic alternatives, and make better-informed technology investments.
While direct software licensing expertise is not essential, you will have the opportunity to develop deep knowledge of software commercial models throughout the role.
This is an excellent opportunity for a highly analytical professional who enjoys solving ambiguous problems and translating numbers into actionable recommendations.
- Develop and maintain sophisticated financial, pricing, and commercial models that support enterprise software investment and strategic decisions.
- Build financial baselines, forecasts, multi-year projections, and pro forma scenarios using client financial information, contractual commitments, demand assumptions, and market benchmarks.
- Conduct variance, trend, scenario, sensitivity, and what-if analyses to identify financial drivers and evaluate alternative outcomes.
- Analyze actual and forecasted technology spending and identify the factors driving deviations from budgets, forecasts, and financial plans.
- Develop total cost of ownership, return on investment, cost-benefit, cash-flow, and business case analyses for software investments and strategic alternatives.
- Perform price, volume, mix, growth, utilization, and unit-cost analyses to identify software spending drivers.
- Quantify financial risks and opportunities related to contract renewals, technology migrations, cloud adoption, licensing changes, vendor consolidation, and alternative investment strategies.
- Work independently with large, complex, incomplete, and unstructured datasets from client and third-party sources.
- Cleanse, normalize, reconcile, organize, and validate financial, pricing, contractual, licensing, utilization, and operational data.
- Identify inconsistencies, missing information, anomalies, and potential errors, developing appropriate approaches to resolve or account for them.
- Develop reasonable, defensible assumptions when information is incomplete and clearly document those assumptions within analytical models.
- Translate ambiguous business questions into structured analytical frameworks, financial models, and decision-support tools.
- Identify material trends, relationships, risks, opportunities, and cost drivers within complex datasets.
- Independently validate calculations, assumptions, inputs, and outputs to maintain a high standard of analytical accuracy.
- Translate quantitative findings into clear, actionable recommendations for clients and stakeholders.
- Develop financial dashboards, KPIs, management reports, and executive-level decision-support materials.
- Analyze enterprise software, SaaS, and cloud investments and evaluate their associated financial and commercial structures.
- Assess provider proposals to identify pricing differences, financial risks, cost optimization opportunities, and potential savings.
- Analyze perpetual, term, subscription, SaaS, and cloud-consumption pricing models.
- Normalize vendor pricing, licensing, usage, and contractual information to enable meaningful comparisons across proposals and scenarios.
- Support commercial benchmarking by evaluating pricing, discount levels, unit economics, contractual structures, and market competitiveness.
- Build scenario models that demonstrate the financial implications of different growth assumptions, consumption levels, contract terms, pricing structures, and technology strategies.
- Support commercial negotiations through financial analysis, scenario modeling, pricing benchmarks, and negotiation economics.
- Research software providers, technology markets, pricing models, licensing structures, and industry trends to support analytical assumptions and recommendations.
- Manage multiple analytical workstreams, deadlines, and client priorities while maintaining high-quality deliverables and documentation.
Requirements:
- 5+ years of relevant experience in financial analysis, FP&A, technology finance, commercial analysis, corporate finance, pricing analysis, transaction advisory, management consulting, strategic sourcing analytics, or another quantitative discipline.
- Experience supporting IT, technology, software, cloud, or other complex commercial environments is strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated experience building financial models and performing quantitative analyses to support business, investment, or commercial decisions.
- Strong knowledge of budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, scenario and sensitivity analysis, business case development, ROI, and total cost of ownership modeling.
- Working knowledge of financial concepts such as OpEx, CapEx, accruals, capitalization, depreciation/amortization, cash flow, and cost allocation.
- Ability to independently translate complex or ambiguous business questions into structured financial analyses and actionable recommendations.
- Strong quantitative, critical-thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills, combined with exceptional attention to detail.
- Ability to challenge assumptions, identify inconsistencies, reconcile conflicting information, and independently validate financial and commercial data.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex financial concepts to technical and non-financial stakeholders.
- Experience developing and presenting financial analysis and recommendations to senior management and executive audiences.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and analytical workstreams.

- Familiarity with software commercial models, licensing metrics, subscription economics, cloud consumption models, and enterprise agreements is beneficial.
- Experience supporting software licensing negotiations or strategic sourcing is a plus, but direct negotiation experience is not required.
- A BS or BA degree in Finance, Accounting, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field is required, or equivalent professional experience.
- Advanced degrees or professional certifications in finance, accounting, mathematics, statistics, analytics, or a related quantitative discipline are preferred but not required.
- Willingness to complete a practical Excel-based financial analysis and modeling exercise as part of the interview process. The assessment focuses on financial analysis, analytical reasoning, Excel proficiency, and problem-solving rather than knowledge of a specific software provider or licensing model.
