Network Automation / NOC Engineer

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Network Automation / NOC Engineer based in United Kingdom.

Join a global infrastructure team supporting high-performance, latency-sensitive trading environments where network reliability is critical. In this role, you’ll monitor, troubleshoot, and maintain connectivity across data centers, offices, cloud providers, and private network links. You’ll work with modern networking technologies including BGP, eVPN, Arista, FortiGate, Ansible, Terraform, Python, and Git. Beyond traditional NOC responsibilities, you’ll contribute to automation and CI/CD initiatives that make network operations more efficient and scalable. Working alongside experienced engineers, you’ll progressively take ownership of more complex infrastructure challenges. This is an excellent opportunity to deepen your networking expertise while developing toward a more advanced network engineering role.

Accountabilities
  • Monitor and support global network connectivity across data centers, offices, cloud environments, and private network links.
  • Troubleshoot routing, switching, firewall, and connectivity issues across first- and second-line support.
  • Administer firewall configurations, including ACL changes, NAT rules, VPN checks, and related operational tasks.
  • Provision and maintain VLANs, interfaces, trunks, and cross-connects on Arista or comparable network infrastructure.
  • Coordinate network turn-ups, moves, additions, and changes with data center providers, clients, and internal engineering teams.
  • Configure and maintain monitoring dashboards, alerts, health checks, and other network observability capabilities.
  • Support planned network maintenance, firmware upgrades, patching, and infrastructure changes.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date network, firewall, and infrastructure documentation.
  • Contribute to CI/CD practices for network configuration management using Git and related tooling.
  • Develop and maintain network automation and scripting using Python, Ansible, Terraform, or comparable technologies.
  • Identify repetitive operational tasks and work with senior engineers to automate them.
  • Collaborate with experienced network engineers to progressively take ownership of more complex engineering and infrastructure initiatives.
  • Follow structured change-management and operational processes to ensure network availability, security, and reliability.
Requirements
  • 2–3 years of professional experience in network engineering, network operations, NOC support, or a closely related role.
  • Solid understanding of networking fundamentals, including routing, switching, VLANs, interfaces, trunks, and connectivity troubleshooting.
  • Hands-on experience with at least one major networking vendor such as Cisco, Arista, Fortinet, or a comparable platform.
  • Practical experience supporting or administering firewalls, including ACLs, NAT, VPNs, and basic security configuration.
  • Experience working with structured change-control processes in production environments.
  • Familiarity with data center networking and infrastructure.
  • Exposure to scripting or network automation using Python, Ansible, Terraform, or similar tools.
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills, with the ability to diagnose complex connectivity and infrastructure issues methodically.
  • Proactive and continuous-improvement mindset, with an interest in reducing manual operational work through automation.
  • Ability to remain effective in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment where network availability has a direct impact on customers.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with senior engineers, technical teams, service providers, and external clients.
  • CCNA certification or equivalent networking knowledge is advantageous.
  • Experience with FreeBSD, Unix, or Linux environments is a plus.
  • Familiarity with AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud networking is beneficial.
  • Experience with VMware, Hyper-V, or other virtualization technologies is an advantage.
  • Knowledge of Precision Time Protocol (PTP) or low-latency infrastructure is highly beneficial.
  • Familiarity with ISO 27001 or other security and compliance frameworks is a plus.
  • Willingness to learn, develop automation expertise, and progress toward more advanced network engineering responsibilities.
Benefits
  • Fully remote position within Europe.
  • Opportunity to work with global data center and network infrastructure supporting latency-sensitive financial workloads.
  • Hands-on exposure to technologies including Arista, FortiGate, pfSense, BGP, VPLS/eVPN, Ansible, Terraform, Python, and Git.
  • Opportunity to develop from traditional NOC operations into network automation and engineering.
  • Close collaboration with experienced senior network engineers and opportunities for mentorship.
  • Exposure to cloud networking, software-defined networking, infrastructure automation, and CI/CD practices.
  • Practical experience with high-performance and low-latency infrastructure.
  • Opportunity to work on technically challenging infrastructure where reliability and performance have a direct business impact.
  • International and collaborative working environment.
  • Career development opportunities toward more senior network engineering responsibilities.
