Job Description

Description: SUMMARY

The Safety Coordinator performs varied and diverse work and is responsible for person-centered service to people with disabilities served by PDI. They will know and be involved with areas and programs related to safety, traffic, and training, monitor the campus, and be in contact with the Pueblo Police Department when necessary. The Safety Coordinator ensures the safety of people served and fellow employees in all operations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES, SKILLS, AND RESPONSIBILITIES

· Run AM and PM Traffic for the Programs department daily

· Train DSPs to run Traffic when the Safety Coordinator is absent

· Manage Safety Orientation for new staff and stakeholders

· Create ID Badges, maintain the system, ensure all badges are current, and staff have them on

· Coordinate Security Codes (doors, gates, alarm system)

· Coordinate after-hours alarms, remotely

· Coordinate physical key control for the main campus

· Responsible for walkie-talkie processes, ensures walkies are charged, and managed, along with walkie etiquette.

· Ensure Paylocity is updated with PDI Property/codes by immediately notifying Human Resources.

· Coordinate the Safety Team along with all departments

· Coordinate third-party programs/alarm buttons, such as Alertus

· Be the point of contact for emergency services such as the police and fire departments

· Assist with terminations, if needed

· Monitor closed-circuit TV cameras and monitor alarms.

· Respond to all campus emergencies.

· Conduct security parameter checks routinely

· Complete reports on anything they observed while on duty.

· Alert Department heads and safety team when someone is a violator.

· Must be able to work with and support people with disabilities.

· Communication skills to effectively communicate with others, especially in stressful situations

· Good judgment to quickly identify the best course of action for dealing with dangerous situations as they arise

· Observation skills to immediately notice anything out of the ordinary

Vehicle Use

· This position does require that you drive a PDI vehicle on PDI business; the position may require you to drive a personal vehicle on PDI business. You will be required to provide a current and valid driver’s license and automobile insurance.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL PDI POSITIONS

You must be age 21 or over to work at PDI. You must also pass a pre-hire drug and background screen as well as random drug screens that may occur at any time and without notice while employed by PDI. You must be computer-literate, comfortable with technology, and with well-developed oral and written communication skills. You must be able to complete and pass First Aid, CPR, and other required training.

If the position requires you to drive a PDI vehicle on company business, then you must possess a valid driver’s license and agree to a review of your motor vehicle record for addition to PDI’s authorized drivers list. In addition, if the position authorizes you to drive your personal vehicle on PDI business then you must provide proof of automobile insurance and proof of required automobile insurance limits.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (“GED”) required; two- years of public safety experience required. Experience working with people with a disability preferred.

LANGUAGE ABILITY

Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures and government regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, individuals served and their families and other stakeholders and the public.

MATHEMATICS ABILITY

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, percentages, area, circumference and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

COMPUTER SKILLS

To perform this job successfully, a person should know the Microsoft Office suite of products, Internet software, cellular telephones, and basic office equipment. Ability to learn and gain proficiency in other software and applications used by PDI.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several variables.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The Safety Coordinator works in the PDI main facility and the PDI Campus. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable persons with disabilities to perform essential functions.

While performing the duties of this job, the Safety Coordinator is frequently exposed to outdoor weather conditions and occasionally exposed to wet or humid conditions (non-weather). The DSP I (CE) is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but can become loud and hectic.

POSITION TYPE AND EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

This is a non-exempt, full-time position. Hours worked Monday through Friday, hours may vary based on work requirements. Occasional evening, weekend and holiday hours may be required to meet customer specifications and PDI needs.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds with the aid of an assistive device. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands, handle or feel and reach with arms. The employee is regularly required to talk and/or listen. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and taste or smell.

TRAVEL

Extensive local travel and travel within 50 miles of the main PDI facility may be required for this position. Occasional out-of-town and overnight travel may be required.
