Senior Benefits Specialist

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Benefits Specialist based in Canada.

This role is responsible for supporting the strategy, design, and administration of employee benefits programs across North America, ensuring they remain competitive, compliant, and aligned with organizational needs. You will play a key role in managing health, welfare, retirement, and wellness programs while supporting complex mergers and acquisitions activities, including due diligence and benefits integration. The position requires strong analytical capability and hands-on expertise in North American benefits systems, particularly across the U.S. and Canada. You will collaborate closely with HR, leadership, and external vendors to ensure seamless delivery of benefits programs and a strong employee experience. This is a highly impactful role within a fast-paced, project-driven environment where accuracy, compliance, and stakeholder management are essential. It offers the opportunity to influence benefits strategy while contributing to organizational growth and transformation initiatives.

Accountabilities:
  • Support the design, implementation, and ongoing administration of health, welfare, retirement, and wellness programs across the U.S. and Canada.
  • Ensure all benefits programs are competitive, compliant with regulations, and aligned with organizational workforce strategy.
  • Lead and support benefits-related due diligence and post-merger integration activities, including plan evaluation, harmonization, and risk assessment.
  • Monitor program performance, utilization trends, and costs to identify optimization opportunities and recommend improvements.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable U.S. and Canadian regulations, maintaining documentation, audit readiness, and policy alignment.
  • Manage relationships with external vendors, including brokers, carriers, and consultants, and support RFP and contract processes when required.
  • Develop clear employee-facing communications and support open enrollment and ongoing engagement initiatives.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in benefits, total rewards, or compensation roles within North America.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. and Canadian benefits regulations and program structures.
  • Proven experience in benefits integration, mergers and acquisitions, and multi-entity program harmonization.
  • Strong analytical and financial skills, including cost modeling, budgeting, and benefits analysis.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills with the ability to work across multiple teams and senior leaders.
  • Experience in project management within complex, fast-paced, or acquisition-driven environments.
  • Familiarity with HRIS platforms (e.g., Workday) and cross-border benefits coordination is an asset.
  • Professional certification such as CEBS or CBP is considered a plus.
Benefits:
  • Competitive compensation aligned with Canadian market standards (approximately $90,000–$110,000 CAD annually).
  • Comprehensive benefits package including medical, disability, life insurance, and retirement savings plans.
  • Paid time off, employee assistance programs, and wellness-focused initiatives.
  • Opportunities for professional development and continuing education support.
  • Exposure to high-impact M&A projects and North American benefits strategy work.
  • Flexible remote work arrangements under a hybrid-friendly policy.
