Job Description
Position Summary:
The Mobile Health Van Medical Assistant is a multi-functional team member responsible for supporting clinical, operational, and patient service activities within a community-based mobile healthcare setting. This role combines traditional medical assistant duties with responsibilities as a van driver, phlebotomist, vaccine administrator, and patient service representative to ensure safe, efficient, and patient-centered care delivery. The position supports Codman Square Health Center’s(CSHC) model focused on access, quality, health equity, and population health outcomes.
Primary Responsibilities:
Clinical Support
- Prepare patients for examination and treatment by obtaining vital signs, documenting medical histories, and entering information into the electronic health record (EHR).
- Assist providers with examinations, procedures, screenings, and point-of-care testing.
- Perform specimen collection including phlebotomy and other CLIA-waived testing.
- Administer vaccines and medications under standing orders, protocols, or provider direction.
- Monitor patients post-procedure or vaccination and respond appropriately to adverse events.
- Maintain infection control, OSHA, and safety standards within the mobile environment.
Mobile Unit Operations & Driving
- Safely operate the mobile health van to scheduled community locations in compliance with state and organizational requirements.
- Conduct daily vehicle safety checks and coordinate maintenance reporting.
- Assist with mobile site setup and breakdown, ensuring efficient patient flow and equipment readiness.
- Maintain supply inventory, cold chain monitoring, and equipment functionality within the mobile unit.
Patient Access & Service
- Perform patient registration, insurance verification, sliding fee eligibility support, and check-in/check-out workflows.
- Obtain consents, releases, and demographic information while maintaining HIPAA compliance.
- Provide visit summaries, patient education, and follow-up instructions.
- Coordinate referrals, scheduling, and communication across care teams.
Care Coordination, Outreach & FQHC Support
- Support outreach events, preventive care campaigns, and community partnerships.
- Assist with quality measure gap closure (e.g., immunizations, screenings, chronic care).
- Support Uniform Data System (UDS) documentation accuracy and compliance.
- Promote culturally responsive and trauma-informed care aligned with CHC mission.

Requirements:Qualifications & Skills:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; completion of accredited Medical Assistant program preferred.
- Medical Assistant certification (CMA, RMA, CCMA, or equivalent) preferred or required per policy.
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record required.
- Phlebotomy competency required or willingness to obtain.
- Vaccine administration training required or willingness to obtain.
- CPR/BLS certification required.
- Experience in community health, FQHC, public health, or mobile care preferred.
- Bilingual skills preferred based on service population.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Competency in vital signs, specimen collection, and immunization workflows.
- Strong patient service and registration skills in diverse populations.
- Ability to work autonomously in mobile and community environments.
- Effective communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
- Understanding of health equity, social determinants of health, and community-based care.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Work performed primarily in a mobile health van and community-based settings.
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting (up to 40 lbs), and equipment setup.
- Travel to multiple community locations and occasional outdoor work.
Physical Requirements:
· Must be able to stand or sit for prolonged periods (at least 50% of the time)
· Visual acuity sufficient for frequent reading and computer use
