Job Description:
The Public Works Administration team is seeking a detail oriented, customer focused Account Technician to provide essential administrative and accounting support for the division.

This Account Technician plays a key role in maintaining accurate financial records, processing purchasing and payment transactions, supporting daily office operations, and delivering outstanding customer service to both internal and external customers.

The ideal Account Technician is organized, dependable, and able to manage multiple priorities while maintaining a high level of accuracy. The selected candidate will:
  • Prepare requisitions using the City’s financial management system.
  • Accurately enter invoices into the City’s accounting software in a timely manner.
  • Enter, maintain, research, and report data across multiple databases and information systems.
  • Order, receive, track, and reconcile office supplies, equipment, and related purchases.
  • Generate reports, maintain filing systems, and provide general administrative and office support.
  • Assist with records management and ensure documentation is complete and organized.
  • Respond to inquiries from City staff, vendors, and customers while providing professional customer service.
  • Support day to day administrative operations and perform other related duties as assigned.

Successful candidates will demonstrate the ability to:
  • Review, interpret, and accurately abstract information from a variety of documents and data sources.
  • Maintain a high level of attention to detail while handling financial and administrative transactions.
  • Organize work effectively, prioritize multiple assignments, and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Understand, apply, and follow established work processes, policies, and procedures.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing.
  • Work collaboratively as part of a team while also exercising sound independent judgment.
  • Deliver excellent customer service with a positive and professional attitude.

Required Qualifications:
VOCATIONAL/EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT: Requires high school diploma or GED/HSE and any combination of education and experience equivalent to satisfactory completion of one year of college education in accounting or related field.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT: In addition to satisfying the vocational/educational standard, this class requires a minimum of one year of related, full-time equivalent experience.

SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES:Requires a valid driver’s license and a driving record in compliance with the City Driving Standards.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies. Emergency operations support work and work locations may be outside of normal job duties.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience performing accounting, bookkeeping, accounts payable, or financial support functions.
  • Experience with invoice processing, purchase requisitions, data entry, and recordkeeping.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience using financial management or enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems is preferred.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive financial information with discretion.
