Senior Finance Manager

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Finance Manager based in Italy.

This role offers the opportunity to take full ownership of finance operations within a mission-driven organization working to accelerate the global energy transition.
As a Senior Finance Manager, you will oversee accounting, financial planning, reporting, compliance, and operational improvements while working closely with leadership teams.
You will play a key role in building scalable financial processes that support sustainable growth and effective decision-making.
The position combines strategic financial management, hands-on accounting expertise, and operational problem-solving in a fully remote environment.
You will collaborate with cross-functional teams and external partners while maintaining high standards of accuracy, transparency, and confidentiality.
This is an opportunity for an experienced finance professional who values autonomy, impact, and contributing to meaningful climate-focused initiatives.

Accountabilities:
  • Take full ownership of the finance function, proactively managing financial operations and ensuring accuracy, reliability, and efficiency.
  • Maintain accurate financial records, including bookkeeping, reconciliations, transaction tracking, and financial documentation.
  • Process invoices, expenses, and payments while ensuring proper controls and compliance with relevant accounting requirements.
  • Support monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closing activities, reporting, and internal financial tracking.
  • Develop and maintain budgets across projects and departments while supporting financial planning and forecasting activities.
  • Manage cash flow, financial analysis, risk management, and other strategic finance activities.
  • Support compliance with German accounting and tax requirements in collaboration with external advisors.
  • Manage monthly payroll processes across internal entities and employer-of-record services.
  • Collaborate with People, Administration, leadership teams, and external vendors on finance-related matters.
  • Support audits, fundraising activities, and financial documentation requests when required.
  • Improve finance workflows, documentation standards, and internal control processes to create scalable solutions.
Requirements:
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in finance, accounting, controlling, bookkeeping, or related financial management roles.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and experience ensuring compliance with local financial requirements.
  • Experience managing financial operations independently and confidently in a remote environment.
  • Familiarity with accounting software and financial management tools such as Odoo, Datev, or similar platforms.
  • Strong analytical skills with experience working with financial data, reporting tools, Google Sheets, and Excel.
  • Excellent attention to detail, organization, and ability to manage confidential information.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across distributed teams.
  • Fluency in English is required, as it is the primary working language. German proficiency is an advantage for communication with external partners.
  • Ability to work autonomously, take initiative, and build efficient processes without close supervision.
  • Experience in startup environments, non-profit organizations, energy sectors, or open-source projects is considered a plus.
Benefits:
  • Fully remote work environment with a high level of autonomy and flexibility.
  • Opportunity to contribute to meaningful work supporting global energy transition initiatives.
  • A trusted culture built around ownership, transparency, collaboration, empathy, and continuous improvement.
  • Flat organizational structure where contributions are valued regardless of title or hierarchy.
  • Supportive onboarding and opportunities for professional development.
  • Competitive salary package with growth potential.
  • Flexible benefits depending on region of residence.
  • Opportunity to help shape processes, culture, and the future growth of a mission-driven organization.
  • Collaborative environment with passionate professionals working across different countries.
  • Strong focus on work-life balance and a no-micromanagement approach.
