The ideal candidate will have hands-on knowledge of machining, sheet metal fabrication, brazing, finishing, and other manufacturing processes, with the ability to interpret engineering drawings and determine the materials, labor, outside services, tooling, fixtures, and processing required to manufacture complex aerospace and defense components.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Review and process customer Requests for Quotation (RFQs) through the company's ERP system and develop accurate and competitive cost estimates.
Analyze engineering drawings, specifications, bills of material, customer requirements, and other technical documentation to determine manufacturing requirements.
Develop manufacturing processes and routing strategies for quotation by evaluating product requirements, production methods, and available manufacturing capabilities.
Identify required raw materials, purchased components, outside processing, tooling, fixtures, and special processes necessary to manufacture the product.
Develop detailed cost estimates including material, labor, machine time, outside services, tooling, fixtures, and other applicable costs.
Work closely with Engineering, Production, Quality, Purchasing, and Operations to determine the most efficient and cost-effective manufacturing approach.
Communicate with customers, engineering personnel, and manufacturing staff regarding product design, tolerances, specifications, tooling, and production requirements.
Obtain and evaluate quotations from outside vendors for raw materials, special processes, plating, heat treating, painting, finishing, testing, and other technical services required for the quotation.
Research and develop new vendor sources while maintaining and expanding the company's existing supplier database.
Evaluate supplier quotations and incorporate applicable costs and lead times into customer estimates.
Identify potential manufacturing challenges, risks, and cost drivers during the quoting process.
Follow up on outstanding quotations and maintain accurate records of quotation activity within the ERP system.
Support the development and maintenance of standard labor rates, material costs, outside processing costs, and other estimating data.
Assist management with cost analysis, make-versus-buy decisions, capacity considerations, and production planning when required.
Maintain confidentiality and comply with all applicable ITAR, customer, quality, and company requirements.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or equivalent; technical or college education in manufacturing, engineering, business, or a related field is a plus.
Minimum 3 years of experience in manufacturing estimating, quoting, production planning, manufacturing engineering, or a related position.
Experience in the aerospace and defense industry strongly preferred.
Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, GD&T, specifications, and engineering documentation.
Strong understanding of manufacturing processes including CNC machining, sheet metal fabrication, welding/brazing, finishing, and related processes.
Ability to understand manufacturing routings and determine appropriate labor, machine, material, and outside-processing requirements.
Experience working with an ERP/MRP system; experience with Epicor or similar manufacturing ERP systems is a plus.
Strong mathematical and analytical skills with attention to detail.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to communicate effectively with customers, suppliers, engineers, purchasing personnel, and manufacturing teams.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple RFQs and deadlines simultaneously.
Ability to work independently while functioning effectively as part of a cross-functional team.
Must have legal authorization to work in the United States.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience estimating complex, low-volume/high-mix aerospace and defense components.
Experience with AS9100-controlled manufacturing environments.
Familiarity with ITAR requirements and defense-related manufacturing.
Knowledge of MIL specifications, customer specifications, and aerospace industry standards.
Experience with outside processing and special processes such as heat treating, plating, chemical processing, painting, NDT, and testing.
Experience developing or reviewing manufacturing routings and labor standards.
Experience with costing and quoting within an ERP/MRP environment.
Previous experience working directly with aerospace and defense prime contractors or Tier 1/Tier 2 suppliers.
