Department Overview
This position is expected to develop, enhance, implement, and provide direction for outpatient or ambulatory
pharmacy services and initiatives. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, employee supervision,
education and training of staff, residents, interns and students, provide leadership and service line
development, involvement in quality assessment and process improvement, and serve as a administrative role model. In addition, they will staff their service area to maintain their competencies in clinical expertise. They will serve as a designated Pharmacist-In-Charge for their specific pharmacy operations.
Function/Duties of PositionStaffing:
- Responsible to work and staff as a pharmacist and provide all clinical duties as outlined in the outpatient pharmacist position description. Must be able to supervise and manage staff, while also performing the clinical duties of an outpatient pharmacist.
Supervision of Staff:
- Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules, and supervises assigned staff, develops performance standards, conducts performance reviews, and coaches their staff for further growth and development.
Program Design & Development:
- Development of programs, strategies, facilities and systems for service improvement or expansion in outpatient or ambulatory services. Develop and monitor performance and quality metrics related to the departmental goals and their specific pharmacy service lines. Participate in the development and implementation of the Department of Pharmacy's strategic plan in alignment with the organization's mission, vision, and values.
- Prepare and review policies and procedures as necessary to meet or exceed regulatory requirements and operational efficiencies.

Required Qualifications
- Pharm.D. or BS in Pharmacy with equivalent experience
- 3 years of Pharmacist experience.
- Pharmacist Licensure in the State of Oregon (required at start of position)
- Pharmacist License in the State of Washington (required at start of position or soon after
Preferred Qualifications
- Five years or more of community and/or hospital pharmacy leadership experience or residency training.
- Mail order experience
- Immunization Certified (ASHP, ACPE, or equivalent)
- AHA BLS Certified
- Certified Specialty Pharmacist (CSP)
Additional Details
The supervisor will experience competing demands from pharmacy management, nurses, physicians,
pharmacy staff and other healthcare professionals, as they attempt to influence clinical decision-making,
clinical policies and practices and work flow. The supervisor must deal with intense situations on a daily
basis. In addition, within the healthcare setting there can be significant lack of control over the work pace,
with frequent interruptions (work is often dictated by external factors) that may lead to mental fatigue or
stress.
