This is a high-impact strategic volunteer leadership role supporting a mission-driven, fully remote civic technology organization focused on strengthening democratic participation. The Chief of Staff will act as a central partner to executive leadership, helping translate vision into execution across programs, operations, fundraising, and cross-functional initiatives. The role requires strong organizational leadership, systems thinking, and the ability to bring clarity and structure to a fast-moving, volunteer-based environment. You will help drive OKRs, coordinate strategic planning, and ensure alignment across distributed teams. In addition, you will play a key role in stakeholder communication and external relations, supporting high-level engagement and organizational visibility. This position is ideal for a leader motivated by mission impact, collaboration, and building scalable operational excellence.
The Chief of Staff will serve as a strategic partner to executive leadership, ensuring alignment across programs, operations, and organizational priorities while strengthening execution discipline in a distributed volunteer environment.
- Lead and manage OKR planning and execution processes, ensuring organizational goals are clearly defined, tracked, and embedded across teams
- Support strategic planning cycles, helping translate leadership vision into actionable roadmaps and measurable outcomes
- Act as a representative of executive leadership in high-level internal and external meetings, ensuring continuity and alignment
- Coordinate cross-functional initiatives, driving project management discipline and ensuring timely execution across distributed teams
- Support external relations efforts, including partner engagement, communications preparation, and coordination of leadership-facing events
- Help strengthen organizational operations by improving evaluation, accountability systems, and performance tracking across programs
The ideal candidate brings senior leadership experience in mission-driven, operationally complex environments, with a proven ability to scale organizations, manage cross-functional teams, and drive execution in fast-paced settings.
- 3+ years of senior management or equivalent leadership experience, ideally in nonprofit, civic tech, or mission-driven organizations
- Demonstrated success in building and scaling programs, teams, or operational systems in distributed or complex environments
- Strong experience in strategic planning, OKR frameworks, and performance management systems
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage credibly with executives, partners, and multidisciplinary teams
- Proven ability to manage stakeholder relationships and coordinate cross-functional initiatives effectively
- Highly organized, self-directed, and comfortable operating in ambiguous or evolving environments
- Passion for civic engagement, public impact, and collaborative, volunteer-driven work
This is a volunteer-based, mission-driven opportunity designed for individuals motivated by impact rather than compensation.
- Fully remote and flexible work arrangement within the United States
- Opportunity to contribute to a high-impact civic technology initiative supporting voter engagement
- Direct collaboration with executive leadership and opportunity to influence strategic direction
- Experience working within a large, distributed volunteer organization
- Professional growth in strategic operations, leadership, and nonprofit scaling
- Meaningful contribution to strengthening democratic participation and public engagement
