In this role, you will contribute to the design and development of mission-critical brokerage infrastructure that supports financial markets expansion in Japan. You will work on highly scalable backend systems powering trading, settlement, and financial data workflows used by global institutional clients. The position combines deep backend engineering with strong domain exposure to regulated financial systems, requiring close collaboration with international teams and Japan-based stakeholders. You will help build and enhance core services including APIs, microservices, and market integrations tailored to Japanese regulatory and operational requirements. Acting as a technical bridge between global engineering and local market needs, you will translate complex business and compliance requirements into robust technical solutions. This is a fully remote role in a fast-paced, globally distributed environment where reliability, scalability, and precision are critical.

In this role, you will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining scalable financial systems that support expansion into the Japanese market while ensuring reliability, compliance, and performance.

• Design and develop high-performance, mission-critical brokerage systems supporting trading, settlement, and financial operations for the Japan market.
• Build and maintain backend services including gRPC microservices, REST APIs, and integrations with external financial institutions and market infrastructure.
• Translate Japan-specific regulatory and business requirements into scalable technical solutions in collaboration with global engineering teams.
• Contribute to the evolution of core platform architecture, enabling multi-currency, multi-market, and multi-language capabilities.
• Participate in incident response, on-call rotations, and production troubleshooting to ensure system stability and reliability.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams across engineering, product, compliance, and external partners to deliver end-to-end solutions.
• Provide technical leadership, participate in architecture discussions, and mentor engineers while contributing to engineering best practices.

The ideal candidate has strong backend engineering expertise combined with experience in financial systems and the ability to work across global and Japan-focused stakeholders.

• 5+ years of software engineering experience with strong backend system design expertise.
• Proficiency in at least one statically typed language such as Go, Java, Kotlin, C#, Rust, or C++.
• Strong experience building scalable, high-availability financial or trading systems.
• Solid understanding of financial systems, including accounting principles, ledgers, reconciliation, and transaction processing.
• Familiarity with regulatory frameworks in financial markets, ideally including Japan-specific compliance environments.
• Experience with APIs, microservices architecture, event-driven and domain-driven design principles.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate across English and Japanese-speaking stakeholders.
• Ability to work independently in a distributed, high-performance, and fast-moving environment.
• JLPT N1 level Japanese proficiency and business-level English communication skills.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or related fields preferred.
