Job Description
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Full-Stack Engineer, Internal Tools based in the United States.
This role is an opportunity to shape the technical direction of internal tools that enable teams to work faster, smarter, and more effectively.
You will combine hands-on full-stack engineering with technical leadership, owning architecture, quality, and engineering standards across the internal tools ecosystem.
The role goes beyond maintaining existing systems, with a strong focus on intelligent automation, recommendations, ranking, search, and data-driven experiences.
Working closely with engineering leadership, you will translate product requirements into technical designs, specifications, and implementation plans.
You will build end-to-end solutions while also driving reusable architecture, reducing technical debt, and raising engineering standards.
With an approximately 80/20 split between coding and technical leadership, you will remain deeply hands-on while mentoring engineers and influencing the broader technical direction.
This is an ideal environment for a product-minded engineer who enjoys solving complex problems and using emerging technologies thoughtfully.
- Own the technical direction and architecture for internal tools, including front-end architecture, reusable components, and component or design system strategy.
- Translate product requirements and technical vision into clear technical designs, specifications, engineering tickets, and implementation plans.
- Design and build new internal tools and administrative features end-to-end, contributing across both front-end and back-end systems.
- Identify and prioritize opportunities to apply recommendation, ranking, search, and other data-driven techniques to improve internal workflows and user experiences.
- Collaborate with product and data science stakeholders to determine where intelligent automation can deliver meaningful improvements and reduce manual effort.
- Drive down technical debt through targeted refactoring, architectural improvements, and proactive engineering standards.
- Conduct design reviews and establish development practices that improve the quality, maintainability, scalability, and reliability of internal systems.
- Build reusable components, frameworks, and engineering tooling that can create value across multiple projects rather than solving isolated problems.
- Serve as the escalation point for complex technical issues and deep debugging, helping teams diagnose and resolve challenging production problems.
- Partner with security stakeholders to ensure administrative interfaces and internal systems are appropriately protected and access-controlled.
- Mentor and support engineers through pairing, code reviews, technical guidance, and direct feedback.
- Produce clear technical specifications and documentation that enable engineers to execute confidently and consistently.
- 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, with a proven track record of designing and delivering scalable production systems.
- Strong system design and software architecture capabilities, with the ability to make sound technical decisions across complex applications.
- Extensive hands-on experience with JavaScript and TypeScript, particularly within Node.js-based environments.
- Advanced, production-grade experience building modern applications with React.
- Strong experience with PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Elasticsearch, or comparable data technologies, including database performance optimization and tuning.
- Demonstrated experience designing, building, and scaling backend systems, ideally within a startup, scale-up, or small engineering organization.
- Proven experience mentoring engineers and helping teams improve technical quality and engineering practices.
- Strong full-stack capabilities and willingness to remain highly hands-on, with approximately 80% of the role focused on implementation and 20% on technical leadership.
- Production experience with Next.js is a strong advantage.
- Experience developing recommendation, ranking, search, or other intelligent data-driven systems is preferred.
- Background building internal tools, administrative platforms, operations systems, or workflow applications is highly valued.
- Familiarity with cloud infrastructure, Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD, and modern software delivery practices.
- Experience with prompt engineering, model fine-tuning, machine learning integrations, or deploying ML capabilities into production is a plus.
- Product-minded approach with the ability to understand user needs and translate them into practical, scalable technical solutions.
- Strong communication, collaboration, problem-solving, and technical decision-making skills.
- Comfortable working in an AI-collaborative development environment and using AI tools thoughtfully to accelerate engineering without compromising quality or judgment.
- Opportunity to take ownership of the technical direction for a critical internal tools ecosystem.
- Highly hands-on role with significant influence over architecture, engineering standards, and technology choices.
- Exposure to recommendation, ranking, search, automation, and AI/ML-enabled product development.
- Opportunity to build scalable systems and reusable engineering foundations with impact beyond individual projects.
- Collaborative environment with close partnership across engineering, product, data science, security, and leadership teams.
- Strong opportunity to mentor engineers and contribute to the growth of engineering practices and technical culture.
- Remote opportunity within the United States.
- Flexible and modern engineering environment focused on ownership, continuous improvement, and thoughtful use of technology.
