Continuous Improvement Engineer

POSITION PURPOSE

The Continuous Improvement Engineer facilitates lean initiatives and collaborates with the plant team to promote and implement Metromonts vision for continuous improvement. Interacts at all levels within the organization to drive improvements in the areas of safety, quality, schedule, and cost.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Lead process improvement teams to achieve desired results.
  • Mentor Metromont associates in lean principles and methodologies.
  • Provide information and technical support to plant management as needed.
  • Advocate changes in culture needed to drive continuous improvement; sometimes called upon to be a contrarian voice.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement and presents those opportunities to department heads for consideration and action.
  • Must adhere to all Metromont and OSHA safety rules and regulations.
SCOPE OF AUTHORITY
  • Reports to either Operations Manager or Plant Manager
  • Mentee to the Director of Continuous Improvement
  • Typically works unsupervised
  • Interacts closely with all departments to develop continuous improvement plans
CHARACTERISTICS (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
  • Demonstrates strong personal organization practices
  • Demonstrates proficiency in project management driving efficiency and waste elimination
  • Deadline-oriented and able to coordinate multiple projects
  • Able to lead cross-functional teams
  • Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Analytical thinker with above average problem-solving skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products including Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio
  • Able to adapt to changes in work schedules, tasks, or processes
  • Values and demonstrates safe working behaviors
EDUCATION AND TECHNOLOGY
  • Bachelors degree in industrial engineering or related technical field, or
  • 5 years experience in a continuous improvement role within a manufacturing organization
  • Knowledgeable of TPS (Toyota Production System) principles of Lean Manufacturing
  • Knowledgeable of Toyota Kata

WORK ENVIRONMENT / SCHEDULE
  • Typically works in the plant environment; spends time in office environment
  • Monday Friday, 8am 5pm; hours may vary based on project timelines
  • External work area is not climate controlled and may be exposed to changing weather and temperature conditions
PERSONAL PROTECTION EQUIPMENT (PPE)
  • Safety glasses
  • High-visibility vest
  • Hard hat
  • Steel-toed shoes
  • Hearing protection
  • Gloves (various types)

PPE only required with working in the plant

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This position requires standing for long periods of time, lifting (up to 75 lbs.) and bending, repetitive motion with medium force, and an ability to frequently climb up to 15 feet above ground using stairs.
