Assistant Payroll Accountant
As our Assistant Payroll Accountant, you'll make sure the numbers behind every pay run are accurate, compliant and properly understood.
This is a role with real scope. You'll work from our National Office across both our Payroll and Finance teams, with the flexibility to work from home two days per week.

What You'll Be Doing
- Reviewing and processing fortnightly payroll journals into NetSuite, with accurate allocation of payroll costs across entities and departments
- Reconciling payroll-related general ledger accounts including wages, superannuation, payroll tax, PAYG withholding and employee deductions
- Preparing and lodging payroll tax returns across multiple Australian jurisdictions, and keeping across state-based legislative change
- Reconciling employee entitlement balances across annual leave, personal leave and long service leave, and preparing payroll accruals for month-end and year-end
- Managing PAYGW payments, reconciling STP lodgements and monitoring ATO portals for ongoing compliance
- Maintaining WorkCover claim and payment records, preparing lodgements and supporting premium reconciliations
- Investigating payroll variances and building a picture of the cost drivers behind labour movements across services and business units
- Preparing audit work papers and responding to internal and external information requests
What You'll Bring
- 25 years' experience in payroll accounting, payroll compliance or a related accounting role
- Hands-on multi-state payroll experience covering payroll tax, WorkCover and long service leave
- Sound knowledge of payroll legislation, superannuation and PAYG obligations
- Advanced Excel skills and proficiency across payroll and accounting software
- Strong organisational and problem-solving skills, with excellent attention to detail and a deadline-driven approach
- Experience in a labour-intensive environment such as labour hire or shared services is a bonus
