Overview

Being good neighbors – helping people, investing in our communities, and making the world a better place – is who we are at State Farm. It is at the core of how we operate and the reason for our success. We're moving with urgency to become a Next Gen Good Neighbor, with technology that strengthens human connections and enhances the customer experience. As an employee, you'll spend less time navigating systems and more time applying judgment, empathy, and expertise in the moments that matter most.

Responsibilities

State Farm is on the cutting edge with the use of technology to support claim employees in developing enhanced skillsets to support and protect our policyholders. Not Human or Digital. Human + Digital, working together.

Auto Injury is a customer-facing segment handling bodily injury and uninsured/underinsured claims along with property damage claims involving injuries. Claims will be tiered within Injury based upon their claim characteristics, complexity, and severity. This could range from non-attorney represented bodily injuries, up to attorney represented and/or litigation claims.

This position is for a field role in which you will have in person assignment(s) claims handling. Examples of in person assignments would be customer facing tasks (such as securing documentation, money, etc) and legal appearances (small claims court, settlement conferences, mediations, trials, etc). Once in person assignments are completed, you would then transition to a claim handler for 3rd party liability claims (evaluating, negotiating, and settling claims).
Helping people recover from the unexpected can be one of the most rewarding aspects of the Injury claims position. We empower our claim handlers to take ownership of the customer experience, demonstrate learning agility, apply their knowledge, and lead through the eyes of our customers.

Responsibilities for this role include:

  • Reviewing and analyzing both residential and commercial property injury claims to determine coverage, liability, and damages with exposures up to $500,000
  • Conducting thorough investigations by gathering relevant information, interviewing involved parties, and reviewing supporting documentation
  • Evaluating medical records, police reports, and other related documents to assess the extent of injuries and liability
  • Evaluate coverage and policy terms to determine the validity of claims and ensure compliance with local regulations
  • Negotiating settlements with claimants, ensuring fair compensation is provided within policy limits considering policy provisions, industry standards, and company guidelines
  • Documenting all claim activities, maintaining accurate records, and preparing reports as required
  • Collaborate with external policyholders, insurance agents, and other involved parties to gather information and resolve claims efficiently
  • Collaborating with internal teams, including legal, medical, and risk assessment, to ensure proper claim handling
  • Claims employees may occasionally deal with difficult and emotional investigations which include traumatic injury and loss of life. May also require interacting with parties who express strong emotions or concerns about ongoing inspections or claim resolutions.
  • Handling may include lawsuits and/or demands as well as working with Attorneys
