We’re seeking a compassionate Caseworker to assist payment challenged customers and special needs customers obtain necessary social service support through the Duquesne Light Customer Assistance and Referral Evaluation Service Program (CARES).

With your education and experience in human services you know the importance of listening closely and working carefully to meet client needs and help them access the services they need. You’re in a key position, facilitating much-needed relief to members of a vulnerable population. You have a lot of fresh ideas to set people up for success and navigate life’s challenges. The CARES Caseworker will work a hybrid schedule that consists of making home visits to clients, attending informational "pop up" fairs, working from home, and at times working in the office.

Caseworker Key Performance Objectives Include:

  • Meet with clients in their homes or other locations to conduct an assessment.
  • Represent and promote the Duquesne Light Customer Assistance Program at community “pop up” resource fairs and events.
  • Determine client eligibility for relevant services.
  • Provide internal and external referrals to social services for clients experiencing hardship.
  • Maintain a network of providers and develop contacts at other local agencies to keep abreast of offerings and changes in provider options.
  • Create service plans and complete assessments for clients involved in the program to establish goals and identify need.
  • Schedule follow-up appointments to monitor progress towards goals and the status of referrals.
  • Complete all necessary documentation in the data system in a timely, comprehensive, and accurate manner to ensure compliance with program standards.
  • Complete and document applications for appropriate community resources including but not limited to: Dollar Energy, Housing, Employment, SNAP, WIC, LIHEAP, Childcare, People’s Gas CAP, Transportation Assistance, etc.
  • Respond to client calls and correspondence from Duquesne Light in a courteous and professional manner to ensure a high standard of communication with the public.
  • Work with Duquesne Light CAP Team Intake Workers with making and receiving internal referrals to ensure seamless and timely services to clients.
Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications Include:

  • An associate degree or a bachelor’s degree in a social services or related field is required.
  • A minimum of two years of client support related experience is preferred. Internship experience counts toward this requirement.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office is required.
  • Previous experience with client databases is preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills both oral and written are required.
  • Understanding of problems, conflicts and life experiences of client populations is required.
  • The ability to interact constructively with community agencies and resources is required.
  • The ability to make home visits is required.
  • Act 33/34 and LEIE clearances
