Public Records Specialist

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Public Records Specialist based in India.

This is a fully remote opportunity focused on researching and verifying U.S. public records as part of background screening operations. You will investigate local, state, and federal court records and carefully interpret legal information from official sources. The role requires strong attention to detail and the ability to distinguish between different charges, case types, statuses, and dispositions. You will contribute directly to the accuracy, quality, and compliance of background verification reports. This position is well suited to someone with prior U.S. public records or background verification experience who thrives in a structured, deadline-driven environment. The role also offers clear opportunities to progress into senior analyst, quality, and team leadership positions.

Accountabilities
  • Conduct detailed research across local, state, and federal U.S. court portals and official public record databases to retrieve relevant case information.
  • Review court dockets and documentation to accurately extract and interpret legal details.
  • Classify charges, including felonies, misdemeanors, and infractions, as well as criminal and civil case types.
  • Interpret case statuses and dispositions, including convictions, dismissals, acquittals, pending matters, and other relevant outcomes.
  • Enter findings accurately and efficiently into internal systems while maintaining high data-quality standards.
  • Meet established service-level agreements (SLAs), turnaround times (TAT), productivity targets, and quality benchmarks.
  • Follow background verification procedures, legal requirements, and applicable compliance guidelines.
  • Protect sensitive personal and legal information by maintaining strict confidentiality and professional integrity.
  • Identify discrepancies, unclear records, or complex cases and escalate them appropriately for further review.
  • Maintain consistent accuracy and attention to detail while working within a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
Requirements
  • Minimum qualification of HSC (Higher Secondary Certificate) or equivalent.
  • Previous hands-on experience in U.S. Public Records, court research, or background verification is mandatory.
  • Practical experience navigating U.S. court websites, public record systems, and court documentation.
  • Strong understanding of U.S. legal terminology and the ability to interpret court records accurately.
  • Excellent attention to detail, analytical thinking, and data interpretation skills.
  • Strong ability to distinguish between charge levels, case types, statuses, and dispositions.
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Excel and data-entry tools.
  • Ability to manage deadlines, productivity expectations, and quality requirements consistently.
  • Strong time-management skills and a disciplined approach to structured processes.
  • High standards of confidentiality, accuracy, and integrity when handling sensitive information.
  • Ability to work remotely with minimal supervision and collaborate effectively when escalating complex cases.
  • No employment gaps exceeding 5–6 months.
  • Willingness and availability to work U.S. night shifts.
