About the PositionThe Lift Ticket Checker plays an important role in creating a safe, positive, and fair skiing and riding experience for every guest. This position verifies that guests accessing the lifts have valid lift tickets, passes, or other approved credentials.
Lift Ticket Checkers provide friendly assistance, support the orderly flow of lift operations, and consistently enforce resort policies. This position requires professionalism and diplomacy when helping guests resolve access issues or preventing unauthorized lift use.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Verify lift access by checking guests’ lift tickets, passes, and other approved credentials.
- Apply ticketing requirements fairly, respectfully, and consistently.
- Welcome guests and provide friendly, helpful service at lift access points.
- Answer questions and direct guests to appropriate resort services and locations.
- Help guests resolve ticket or pass concerns with patience and professionalism.
- Identify invalid, missing, altered, or potentially fraudulent passes.
- Follow established procedures when denying lift access or addressing suspected pass misuse.
- Communicate pass concerns to the Lift Operations Supervisor, Ticketing, or Guest Services.
- Maintain a calm and diplomatic approach when assisting guests who are frustrated or confused.
- Assist with guest flow, lift-line control, maze setup, and general organization of lift areas.
- Monitor lift access points and surrounding areas for safety concerns and potential hazards.
- Provide accurate information about resort terrain, trail conditions, policies, and mountain operations.
- Maintain a visible, attentive, and welcoming presence at assigned lift access points.
- Promptly report incidents, suspicious activity, policy violations, and safety concerns.
- Complete required incident reports and other documentation accurately and promptly.
- Follow all resort policies, safety requirements, and emergency procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Strong customer-service and communication skills.
- Ability to remain calm, confident, and professional during challenging interactions.
- Ability to enforce policies with fairness, consistency, and diplomacy.
- Dependable, punctual, attentive, and team-oriented.
- Ability to follow established procedures and communicate concerns promptly.
- Ability to work outdoors in winter-weather conditions for extended periods.
- Availability to work weekends, holidays, and evenings as required.
- Previous experience in guest service, recreation, ticketing, security, or loss prevention.
- Familiarity with ski-resort operations.
- General skiing or snowboarding knowledge.
- Experience handling guest concerns or enforcing access requirements.
- Excellent interpersonal and guest-service skills.
- Strong verbal communication skills.
- Careful attention to tickets, passes, and access credentials.
- Sound judgment and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to recognize potential misuse or fraudulent activity.
- Ability to manage conflict without escalating the situation.
- Ability to provide clear and accurate information to guests.
- Ability to work effectively with Lift Operations, Ticketing, Guest Services, and other resort departments.
- Commitment to protecting resort revenue while maintaining a welcoming guest experience.
- Ability to stand and remain attentive for four to eight hours.
- Ability to work outdoors in cold, snow, wind, and changing winter-weather conditions.
- Ability to occasionally lift and move items weighing up to 25 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Manual dexterity necessary to handle tickets, passes, scanners, and other ticketing equipment.
- Ability to work around moving equipment and on snow- or ice-covered surfaces while following all safety requirements.
- Ability to wear the required uniform and appropriate winter-weather clothing.
Lift Ticket Checkers protect Shanty Creek Resort’s revenue, ensure fair access for paying guests, and help maintain a safe and positive on-mountain experience. As one of the first employees guests encounter at the lifts, this position plays an important role in creating a welcoming, organized, and policy-compliant environment.
