Melmark is a nonprofit organization providing clinically-sophisticated evidence-based special education, residential, vocational, and therapeutic services for children and adults diagnosed with autism spectrum disorders, developmental and intellectual disabilities, acquired brain injuries, medical complexities, and other neurological and genetic disorders.

Curriculum Coordinator Overview

The Curriculum Coordinator will ensure the development and provision of Individualized Education Program (IEP) services, lesson plans and student progress monitoring, assessment and testing. The Curriculum Coordinator is responsible for ensuring that the services specified in each student’s IEP are delivered at Melmark Carolinas. They must have knowledge of NC Standard Course of Study and Extended Content Standards, NC State testing and Alternate Assessments. They also assist with other educational, clinical and administrative projects as needed. The Curriculum Coordinator is assigned to assist in development of special education services in the program and to ensure that the services specified in each student’s IEP are delivered. This role ensures progress attainment in designated caseloads. The role designs instruction using ABA methodology and other evidence-based interventions.

Schedule and Salary Information

• Monday- Friday 7:30a-4p (year-round school program)

• Starting Salary: $82,500 (+) based on years of experience

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Education or Special Education, Psychology or Behavior Analysis required.
  • Special Education Administrator or Teaching license in the state of North Carolina and/or Board Certification in Behavior Analysis (BCBA) at the Master’s level required. If not dually certified, active enrollment and engagement in pursuit of a BCBA credential or NC Teaching license required with attainment within 2 years of commencement of employment in this position. Ph.D level with experience in ABA and curriculum development will be considered.
  • Must demonstrate strong reading, written and oral language skills. Strong teaching skills with emphasis on students who are emotionally, behaviorally, physically and/or developmentally challenged. Experience or interest in the principles and application of Applied Behavior Analysis, curriculum and special education (Autism Spectrum Disorders). Strong interpersonal skills are required.
  • Prefer at least five (5) years’ experience in teaching, curriculum development, applied behavior analysis and supervisory experience in a special education setting and a minimum of one (1) year of administrative experience is required. Advanced skills in educational and clinical services will be required in this role.
  • A valid US driver’s license and a minimum age of twenty-one (21) years old. Must be capable of attaining approved Melmark driver status.

Curriculum Coordinator Responsibilities

  • Has current knowledge of NC Standard Course of Study and Extended Content Standards and uses this information to guide assessment and IEP development for all students and educators.
  • Has current knowledge of NC state testing, including Alternate Assessment procedures and collaborates with LEAs to ensure adherence to statewide testing assessment procedures.
  • Is actively engaged in the assessment of students by training and guiding the Special Education Team:

-assessment tool selection

-assessment implementation

-written assessment results generated

-develops a baseline packet 3 days in advance of new admissions with the immediate team

  • Ensures that IEP goals are appropriate, measurable, specific and attainable.
  • Ensures completion of writing of IEP sections for students as required by timelines.
  • Works with the Special Education Team to ensure all instructional programs/ Lesson Plans are written and implemented within 10 days of the IEP meeting.
  • Provides implementation strategy training to staff on all lesson plans as needed.
