Senior Tax Accountant - Fund Tax Compliance

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Tax Accountant - Fund Tax Compliance based in Canada.

We are seeking an experienced tax professional to support complex partnership tax compliance activities within the private markets and investment fund ecosystem.
This role offers the opportunity to manage critical tax deliverables, review complex filings, and ensure accuracy across a portfolio of private funds.
You will combine technical expertise, analytical skills, and ownership of end-to-end compliance processes to deliver high-quality results.
The position provides exposure to sophisticated fund structures, cross-functional collaboration, and opportunities to improve operational workflows.
You will partner with accounting teams, auditors, and internal stakeholders while contributing to scalable tax processes in a growing environment.

Accountabilities

The Senior Tax Accountant will own key aspects of partnership tax compliance, ensuring accurate filings, effective processes, and timely delivery of tax obligations across assigned investment funds. The role involves:

  • Reviewing U.S. partnership income tax returns (Form 1065), investor Schedule K-1s, and supporting documentation for investment funds and management entities.
  • Managing complex partnership tax activities, including allocations, special allocations, waterfall calculations, carried interest calculations, book-to-tax adjustments, and capital account maintenance.
  • Owning end-to-end tax compliance deliverables for assigned funds, including coordinating timelines and ensuring high-quality K-1 delivery.
  • Managing filing calendars, extensions, and compliance deadlines to ensure accurate and timely submissions.
  • Researching partnership tax matters and documenting technical positions for internal review and decision-making.
  • Identifying potential issues during reviews and applying sound judgment to resolve discrepancies before final deliverables.
  • Collaborating with fund accounting teams, external auditors, onboarding teams, and internal stakeholders to improve processes and resolve complex issues.
  • Supporting workflow improvements and contributing ideas to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and scalability.
  • Mentoring and supporting junior team members, including associates and interns, through training and knowledge sharing.
  • Maintaining strong standards of quality, compliance, and client service across all assigned responsibilities.
Requirements

The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented tax professional with strong partnership taxation expertise and experience managing complex compliance processes. Candidates should bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 2–3 years of partnership tax experience in public accounting, fund administration, or a similar environment.
  • Professional accounting qualification such as CPA, Chartered Accountant (CA), Enrolled Agent (EA), or equivalent certification, or clear progress toward obtaining one.
  • Strong knowledge of partnership taxation, including Form 1065 preparation and review, Schedule K-1 reporting, tax allocations, and investor compliance requirements.
  • Experience working with private equity, venture capital, real estate, hedge fund, or other investment fund structures.
  • Strong analytical and review skills with the ability to identify risks and ensure accuracy in complex tax deliverables.
  • Ability to communicate technical tax concepts clearly through written documentation and collaboration with internal teams.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines during high-volume periods.
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience using professional tax software.
  • Familiarity with tax platforms such as GoSystem, CCH Axcess, or similar tools is preferred.
  • Experience with fund administration platforms is a plus.
  • Exposure to SALT compliance, international information reporting requirements (Forms 8621, 1042), or investor withholding is beneficial.
