Engineering Manager, Postgres

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an Engineering Manager, Postgres based in the United States.

As an Engineering Manager, Postgres, you will lead a talented engineering team responsible for building and evolving a critical database product used by hundreds of thousands of developers. You’ll combine people leadership with hands-on technical guidance, shaping architecture, engineering practices, and product direction. The role offers significant ownership across product development, system reliability, and long-term platform evolution. You’ll work closely with Product, Design, Infrastructure, and other stakeholders to turn customer needs into scalable solutions. You’ll help the team balance rapid delivery with high standards for quality, reliability, and developer experience. This is an opportunity to influence both the technical roadmap and the growth of engineers in a fast-moving, developer-focused environment.

Accountabilities:
  • Lead, mentor, and grow a team of Postgres engineers through regular feedback, technical guidance, career development, and effective performance management.
  • Drive major product initiatives from initial ideation through delivery, balancing execution speed with reliability, quality, and long-term maintainability.
  • Partner with Product, Design, Infrastructure, customers, and other stakeholders to understand user needs, establish priorities, and shape technical roadmaps.
  • Provide strong technical leadership in system design, architecture, and engineering decisions, helping the team evaluate complex tradeoffs.
  • Break down complex technical challenges into incremental milestones that deliver customer value while supporting continued platform evolution.
  • Foster a culture of ownership, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement across engineering practices and team processes.
  • Ensure engineers maintain a strong understanding of the developer experience and the broader customer and business impact of their work.
  • Help improve team velocity, engineering processes, and ways of working while maintaining strong standards for system health and operational excellence.
Requirements
  • 8+ years of professional engineering experience delivering products, features, or systems with meaningful downstream business and product impact.
  • Experience building or operating stateful services, with a strong understanding of system architecture and engineering tradeoffs.
  • 2+ years of experience managing and developing engineers, including hiring, mentoring, providing feedback, and managing performance.
  • Strong technical foundation with the ability to engage deeply in architecture, system design, distributed systems, and complex engineering decisions.
  • Product-oriented mindset and demonstrated ability to translate customer needs and business objectives into practical engineering roadmaps and shipped products.
  • Ability to balance urgency with thoughtful execution, enabling teams to move quickly without compromising reliability or quality.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and stakeholder-management skills across engineering, product, design, and other functions.
  • Strong sense of ownership and accountability for both immediate team outcomes and the long-term health of technical systems.
  • Experience with developer platforms, cloud infrastructure, DevTools, highly scalable distributed systems, or products built for technical users is a plus.
  • Experience improving engineering velocity through tooling, processes, or team practices is also valued.
  • A track record of collaborating effectively with product, marketing, customer support, or other go-to-market teams to support product adoption and retention is advantageous.

  • $204,000–$289,000 annual salary, with offers including equity; compensation may vary based on experience, transferable skills, business needs, location, and market conditions.
